We are fortunate in Gulf Shores to be near the home base of the incredible U.S. Navy Blue Angels, and soon we welcome them home from their 2011 tour! The homecoming will be held on November 11 & 12 at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL.
The admission is free, the show is super, and there are several other events at the show to enjoy - so pack up the family and plan to attend. If you are interested in reserved seating, those seats can be held for a fee or purchased as available on the show dates. You are also allowed to bring your own chairs or lawn blankets. Gates will open at 8:00 a.m. each day of the show, and the events begin at 9:45 a.m. The Blue Angels will fly at 2:00 p.m. and will be available to sign autographs after the show.
The public is invited to join military and show sponsors for a spectacular night air show on Friday. This show begins with the National Anthem at 4:30 p.m. and will feature several acts such as the Emerald Coast Skydivers, the Ceico Skytypers, a huge fireworks display, and Wall of Fire by East Coast Pyro. Children are welcomed to their own "Kid's Zone" at the show. Home Depot sponsors a Kid's Zone Craft Tent where children can build a "homemade" project. The Kid's Zone also includes inflatables, a climbing wall, bungee ride, and virtual reality rides. All of the kids activities are free!
Several sponsors help make it possible to provide this show free to the public. There will be food and beverages available for sale as well as vendor booths. You are not allowed to bring coolers, backpacks, food, drinks, or pets to the show. There is a handicap area set aside for wheelchairs and one person assisting with the wheelchair. It is good to remember that air shows are noisy, and young children should have some ear protection. It is also very windy on the tarmac, and the temperature ranges between 60-70 degrees.
The close proximity of the Pensacola Naval Air Station and the Blue Angels is a real plus for Gulf Shores.
