Great Customer Service

Have you ever had one of those customer service experiences that put the "uh" in uh-mazing?  A wow moment that left you feeling indebted to the benefactor of such an unbelievable gift.  The sad but simple truth is that great customer service experiences stand out like a beacon in our brains because they are so few and far between.  It's unfortunate that these instances are fleeting as we've become a society full of blamers, takers and users.

As sales professionals, we know that whether it's great customer service or poor customer service, our willingness to outshine the competition will leave a lasting impression on our customers, peers, vendors and referral partners.

The Simple Truth Behind Great Customer Service

  1. Great customer service doesn't care what time it is or that you have had a really difficult day. Great customer service happens morning, noon and night without fail.
  2. Great customer service extends beyond your typical daily duties and into the remarkable world of going above and beyond.
  3. Great customer service doesn't end at the closing table, it only begins.
  4. Great customer service comes from the heart, not the pocket book.
  5. Great customer service means one-on-one relationships and cannot be delegated to anyone else but YOU!
What else would you add to this list?  Where have you seen exceptional customer service and what examples could you give?

Take a few minutes and watch this inspirational video of one man's vision of what truly great customer service looks like on a daily basis.

Rebekah ~ I had the lovely experience this morning as I was in the drive-thru line of one my favorite coffee places in Grants Pass. There was a new Barista making my cup of Joe and he wasn't quite sure how to make it. One of the more experienced Baristas took him aside and said this:

'Mel likes her coffee with the cream first, then a shake of cinnamon, and then whip cream to top it off. It's better that way because the cinnamon doesn't clump at the top.'

I never told him this, he just figured it out for himself and he's been making my coffee for years.  There are 8 other coffee houses just like this one in my quaint little town, but I always patron this one for the 'extra' special service ;)

Rebekah I've had some awesome experiences latley with exceptional customer service. I have a new family doctor and on Friday she sat down with me for over an hour or so to go over results etc.  I was flabergasted to say the least at her level of listening, ideas and explanations.  That is a first for me. It was amazing!

Customer service is so so so important in creating  long standing business relationships.

Rebekah- There is a top producing agent in my office that I take a lot of tips from and I try to implement them when I can.  The one tip I have is that on my outbound voicemail I annouce I will return any call after 7pm the following day.  After reading this post and watching the movie I changed my message.  Thank you.

Anita - That was one of my favorite lines too!

Gary - I 100% agree! Have you read "Love is a Killer App?" I think you would really like it!

Thank you James! I think there's always room for provement. Customer service is something that we should always see evolving within our own career as we seek to reach and connect with the needs of our clients.

That was an incredibly sweet thing to say Cathy!! I second that emotion and sentiment -- I'm so glad to share in this journey with you!

Yes we do Joan and bad service also spreads like wildfire.  It's that word of mouth that we shoud aspire for with GREAT customer service!

What a fantastic display of going above and beyond Mel!  It's no wonder you choose that coffeee shop over any other when they've gone that extra step by knowing your needs and serving them before you even have to say a word.  I love it!

Thank you Anna!!!!  I hope you have a fabulous week and find more of that great customer service!  (And from a Dr's office???  Unheard of!)

The video said there was an error, please try again later. Customer service is finding out the children's birthdays of your clients and sending them birthday cards and the parents congratulation cards on the child's birthday.

People forget what has been said, but they never forget how you made them feel.  Great customer service is one way for them to never forget you.  Great post!

Hi Rebekah--great blog and I suggested it.  Great customer service has no timelines.  The other day in the AT&T store I was blown away by the great customer service I received.  It seems so few and far between these days.
