Have a Homemade Halloween Costume in Palm Beach County!

It’s been years since I donned a Halloween costume but I do know that most of the fun came in choosing an idea and then creating it.  Now.. there’s no way I even come close to my favorite Halloween costume designer, Sharon Tara, but here is one of my favorites and I guarantee you ….it’s easy!

Years ago my husband and I had a Halloween party to attend and the theme was to come as some kind of profession or worker. We really wanted to get creative with our costumes.  My mind was blank, however as my husband was looking out his window at work the idea came to him.  Keep in mind, he’s a builder so we went as:

A Brick Layer and His Brick

( laugh if you will ..you with your mind in the gutters!)

Halloween

His costume was easy... some overalls and a trowel.  For the “brick”,  we found a cardboard box, spray painted it red with added touches of black and then cut out holes for my arms and some for the front of the brick.  I wore black tights underneath my brick.

Materials needed: Cardboard box (or use poster board and be innovative)
                                 Paint
                                 1 Brick
                                 A Trowel

The overalls for the brick layer is a given.  The brick is pure genius.

OK, I'm so glad you put that little disclaimer in about "laughing if you will..." because, oddly enough, that did cross my mind!!!

Good morning Kathy

We always use to make our own Halloween costumes when we were growing up.  My daughter-in-law just spent over $100 on her three kids for Halloween costumes this year.  Thats nuts.
Great Picture!

Sooo adorable! I think it's time you dressed up again...you still have time to come up with something, then find a party to crash!

I suppose that for that one evening you were as thick as a brick Kathy. It looks like that was a rather difficult costume to move about in.

Michael- I'm going to check your post to see if you shared your costume with us!!!

David- I know... the mom's now go online to buy a costume... my friends in  Kansas City who own a Children's Orchard make a lot selling the pre-worn costumes!!

BARFF- ah...that was back in the much younger days!! But thank you.

Carol- couldn't take too long to make!!!  Post a pic of your costume.

Lenn- you know these builders... all they think about is bricks, Sheetrock and lumber.  Glad you liked the brick idea.

Craig- and don't think I didn't think of you with that disclaimer.

Capt Wayne... and how many times will they wear them!

Valerie- I may dress as a football player and sit in front of the tv while I watch Monday Night Football!

Cathy- cute profile pic!   I have to find a pic of when we dressed up as our good friends.

Joanna- They were cute weren't they!

John (the Q)- Glad you "got it"... it was so easy to make.. and I think making your own costume is so much more fun than buying one.

Debb... you? gutter mind??? oh no.  I hope I remember how to get my old photo back!!

Sharon-another gutter mind!!! I wondered if anyone would notice the wall paper.  For the life of me, I can't remember if it was in our first apt. or if it belonged to the people who had the party.  Don't you just love it!!!

Jennifer- I cannot find another cute idea we had... have to keep digging for it.

Amy- ok ok... I'll think about it for next year!!

Janice- I think my husband would say my head is as hard as a brick!  Happy Halloween!

Hi Kathy--I agree with Roger--you are the cutest brick.  I'm not commenting on Sharon's comment.  I think the costume idea is really creative and well executed.  We're going to a party this weekend.  Costumes are optional--good.
