New Marketing Concept for 2012... Refrigerator Magnets... Really?

By
Real Estate Agent with RealtyUSA

I hate real estate refrigerator magnets. I know that is a bold statement... so, I let me say it this way. Refrigerator magnets are a waste of money!

This is going to be a very short post. This is my question to every real estate agent out there reading this.

Have you ever been on a listing appointment and secured the business, and sticking to the refrigerator was another real estate agents face on a magnet? I have, many times... I even asked the seller if I could have the magnet for my collection.

Refrigerator magnets are good for only one thing, to hold up notes.

That's very sad . . .  for the other agents' magnets who went home with you.  :(

I just ordered some business card, calendar magnets. I like magnets, the magnets I have purchased can be a reminder to my clients to refer me to ALL of their friends, co workers, etc. there is a calendar, incase they dont know what day it is :) and of COURSE my picture is smiling at them everyday!!!!

Wow, how funny. Yes I totally get it, but actually I have done and plan on doing another magnet. Am I crazy? Yes perhaps.

I want to do a cooking measurements magnet. I hope it's an ever-green.

Maybe now I'll think twice

Ok, I will be nice... I did not mean to offend anyone. I was showing homes this past weekend and some of the homes had magnets on the refrigerator, but they were not the listing agent... I know they are cheap, but still have to question their overall effectiveness

Bob, Thanks for the honesty...as I have seen this many times myself.  The listing agent is not the same agent who is stuck on the refrigerator door. Thanks for sharing.

Bob - It is unclear if refrigerator magnets marketing concept work, but it is very popular. Thanks for information.

That's true, I have walked away with listings and had to remove the other agents magnets.  I suppose other agents have had to remove mine from their listings.  I still give them out because every once in a while I do pick up a listing from them so I will be sending them out again this year.

Like any other marketing, you can't do just one thing. I send a magnet or more often deliver them myself. Then I call and email and do everything else I can to stay in touch.  They'll always know where to find my phone number.

Yes, staying in touch with a past client is VERY important, one of the most important things you can do... But I suspect that agents are sending these out as promotional items to prospects they never met, a good marketing sales letter will do more than a magnet... Also, one of the best ways to stay in touch with past clients is to call them, but doing something is better than nothing. Thanks for the comments
