The Carson Mansion is perhaps the most photographed Victorian in California. The mansion was built by William Carson who came to Humboldt County in search of gold. He found his fortune in Redwood. In 1855 he shipped the first cargo of redwood lumber from Humboldt Bay to San Francisco, where previously only spruce and fir timber had been shipped.
William Carson formed a partner ship with John Dolbeer and revolutionized the logging business with their mechanical talent. In 1881, John Dolbeer patented the "Dolbeer Steam Logging Donkey" which modernized logging by replacing manual labor with a steam powered machine. This partnership bought some of the finest timberland in the North State. They prospered and became powerful land and transportation barons. They owned several railroads and shipping companies.
William Carson was know as a charitable man. He took care of his employees and was remarked to have fed his employees well. When he died, he left 116 heirs to his estate, many charitable organizations.
It is now owned by the Ingomar Club, a private club of local business men. You can learn more about the Carson Mansion and the history of it here.

This was the scene that we arrive at. The Raven remained perfectly posed for the photo.
