How I Know My Video Is Being Viewed – A Video Contest Example

This is such great information provided to us by Tom!  I have to re-post it for others to see as well.  I don't usually post videos, other than the visual shows that are linked to my presentation of a home for sale, but I am always looking for ways to track my SEO.  I am going to try and figure out a way to use this to my advantage.  Thanks Tom!

How I Know My Video Is Being Viewed – A Video Contest Example

I entered a video into the First Annual Talent Contest, thanks to Stacey Smith and the VBlogger Group. Many wonderful videos were submitted and it was a learning experience for me. The reason I bring this up the contest is to show you how you can track the views using YouTube Insight.

I did not post this video anywhere else but to the contest at ActiveRain. After putting the video together and submitting it to the group, people watched the video. I can see from the graph that it was submitted on September 14th and number of views spiked for a few days and then tapered off.

Later, when the Top Ten results were posted by Stacey Smith, including my video, the views spiked again. The video was included with the other 9 videos for the members to vote. This again tapered off over time.

It is good to know where your videos are being seen, without Insight all I would know is that my video was viewed 107 times. Now let’s look at where people found the video.

This video is in a controlled setting, but I know that people outside ActiveRain have also viewed it. By clicking on Discovery, I get a list of links followed to this video.

I can further see that ActiveRain only accounted for 67.6% of the views, although this was the only site it was posted. Where did the other referred links come from? Well, it can be found on my Channel (I had to upload it somewhere), suggested videos, featured videos, theft, and so on. But you would never know this unless you checked.

So why is this important? Let’s say you produce a video of a home for sale. You post it to ActiveRain, Craigslist, and Facebook and you get a total of 500 views in one week. How would you know where if was viewed? Which of these sites were the most effective places to sell your home? YouTube Insight can help show you the answer.

Knowing this, you can make better use of your videos, concentrate your effort, change your video style to match your market, and much more.

But this is just a small part of what YouTube Insight has to offer, spend a little time getting familiar with what it can do will help better understand video marketing. The best part of all this is that it is available at no cost to you - take advantage of it!

Great stuff Tom, I was looking into it and being that I don't use YouTube videos, I can't figure out a way that it will benefit me.  Perhaps I have to start making YouTube videos.
