Thoughts from Deb on Lake ConroeIt is a daily guarantee. Nothing we do, nothing we know, and no one we know will remain the same. Philosophy is one of deep thought, "educational concepts" that haunt each of us even if we never had formal education. Whether you realize it or not, it will haunt you.

EXAMINE ALL POSSIBILITIES

Change.
What does it mean?
As humans it means we have yet another mountain to climb. We have yet another problem to solve. We have yet another heart to heal and yet another dilemma to dissolve. We can do it. We were placed upon this earth to absorb, then rationalize and to then react. Our inclinations are to revert to primal thinking. This would mean thinking of one's self first and foremost.

But, as civilized man, we are much more progressive than that. We, as civilized and educated man, instead of primal reactions, act and react with "thought and reasoning". It is not unreasonable. Change is necessary for each and every one of us to survive. Remember the old saying, "if you do the same thing over and over again, you will receive the same results...and that is the definition of "crazy"?"

Deb's Just Thinkin'My advice. Accept change and go with the flow. Accept the change within your personal life and your professional life. This might mean to re-evaluate a "no-no" for you from the past. Possibly see the good in the possibilities and accept the change. In Real Estate we are changing each and every day. We use to put our foot down and say, "no way are you advertising my listing!!!" My question to you is...."were you thinking of yourself or your client? So many things are changing daily that we must adapt or accept our demise. Aren't we here to sell and co-operate in the sales for our clients? Isn't this our Fiduciary responsibility?"

Loosen up. Half (50%) a commission is a whole lot better than (100%) of nothing! Do what you need to do to advertise and share your listings. It's only fair for your clients! Love your clients and sell their properties.

Like I said. "Loosen up."

You find change in your pockets??

While I agree that change is the only constant, and we need to learn to accept and embrace change... there are times when 50% of a commission is simply not an acceptable answer.  Morals and ethics and dagnabit-ness, require me to say "no thank you".

Clearly, you have to be in a position to be able to say "no thank you"... but I sleep better at night.

Real estate itself may still be real estate.... But the way we sell it has certainly changed. Every year there are new ways, new things to learn, new things to DO. For some, this can be too much. It has become less time consuming in the car and more time consuming on the web. One thing remains the same... It's not easy! If it were, everyone would do it! Congratulations on the Well deserved feature!! XO

Great advice Deb. :-)  It was great seeing you last week at XPlode. Im hoping that you do come out this way again soon so that you, Steve, and I can meet up for lunch or something.  Congrats on the Feature. Many do not accept change. I sometimes even have an issue with it. But I come around eventually.

Great advice, especially considering that we are all operating in a whirlwind of change in the real estate industry. For some reason, real estate is an industry that seems to especially resist innovation.

We should accept change as a way of life. There would not be much progress if we resisted change. Our listings get a lot more exposure because of Broker reciprocity. Great post. Congratulations on the feature.

Adapt and change ~ that's what got civilization to this point and what we must do to keep on keeping on, even in real estate.

Hi Deb,  I tend to embrace change when it leads to better things.  Some folks fight it tooth and nail.  I love the definition of insanity that you quoted.  It is so true.  Great post and congrats on the feature!

A lovely feature Deb!  I know I'm a strange bird... but I like change and the variety that it offers.  Life would be so dull if everything was as it was... and as it always will be.  I'm big on change and I say... bring it!

Hi Deb - I like your attitude - exactly the kind of thinking you're going to need to be a survivor. We live in interesting times, as the Chinese say.

Some people resist going with the flow, but I find peace when I let go and move in whatever direction I'm meant to be in. Good commonsense advice at the end.

Gayle! So good to see your smiling face. Yes, I have to become even more adaptable in the future. I'm working on it.

Rosalie, sanity is optional! LOL...

Tammie, that's a tough one. Empty Nesting is no fun at first yet you will find a new you!

Jane, I agree. We have to keep or or get lost in the flurry.

Cal, it hurts the people that resist in so many ways. It is easier to just go with it!

Fernando, that is so true! Think of it like a roller coaster ride with ups and downs. You still get off the ride safely!

Charlie, you bet. In so many ways too! I'm finding the technology my greatest challenge. Ideas are easy to adapt to with an open mind but which button to push just baffles me!

Dianne, I have not gotten there yet. Do you love your Mac? I'm an old dog and it's tough to learn that much of a trick!

Heck if I were anti-change I would NO LONGER be in the real estate business!  Our market changes here more than Nebraska weather!

Deb - Change is our greatest challenge and yet it is also how we grow and find new business.  I think you are right, I would rather have something than nothing.  My kids and I call one day a month opposite day.  We try to do things opposite of what we might do.  We sit in different spots, eat breakfast for dinner, wear something we never wear.  But it is a great way for them to learn that change can mix up our mind so that we can grasp new ideas and get really creative.

Dear Deb - Yes, change is constant! We have to flex with the wind for sure...  Hugs & love this heart.... ah & "if" we decide to doubt change then mother nature may just show us....  from one coast to the other...beautiful CA to big fat snow flakes today to may be getting back to rainy Florida tomorrow....  It was cool to see the 'change' to big fluffy flakes :)  I am not sure everyone feels that way...  These were smaller than some, but still big for October.  You have to look at the top by the brick to see the flakes... snow in alexandria

(an example of change :)...this is easier than the weather further north though!
