Gilbert, located just minutes from freeways and the Phoenix International Airport or the Mesa Gateway Airport, was once farm land, dairies, and Williamsfield Air Force Base. There are a few farms and dairies still remaining, but the base is gone. Today you can find newly built homes in Gilbert just about anywhere in the town. It grew from about 6,000 residents in the 70's to over 200,000 by the turn of the century. The medium resale price on a home is approximately $270,000 and for new homes it is $276,000. With all of the benefits of purchasing a brand new home verses a resale, the only downside I can see is the cost of landscaping the backyard! Stratland, builders from the east coast, were designing and building some beautiful homes until the housing market tanked and they had to walk away from this upscale neighborhood that they had started in Gilbert, AZ new construction real estate.
