Lightning in the Sacramento area happens only a few times a year, maybe.  I think there have been only a few times in my whole life that I can remember a bad thunder storm.  We just don't experience extreme weather here.  Well, Monday we had a few strikes, nothing much at all  though.  My son and puppy were scared to death. Actually, my son said he wasn't afraid of the lightning but the thunder.  I told him that the thunder couldn't hurt him but the lightning could. 

My son might have a different opinion when he hears what happened to this man's car just miles form our home. You can read the story and watch the video on this local news website.
