One of my kids came home today and said that her teacher showed this to the class at  school.  Great applications are shown here and we are not too far from these futuristic items.  As Realtors, we should be aware of how consumers will be using their homes as these new technologies become realities.

Thanks Holly!  I appreciate the re-blog.  It's such a great way to showcase the newest technology that is coming to homes in our towns soon!

Sara, I know what you mean.  Some of these items are already available (for example the nook or kindle) but it would sure be great to have the items shown!

I agree, its not all that far off .. I've started to see some of this stuff in high end homes.  And, yes the homes will need to adjust ...like all the custom recessed alcoves built to fit the BIG BIG TV's with rear projection so they could be flush with the wall --- and then along came wall-mounted flat screens (that don't need a recessed alcove) .. yep.. its always changing.  Cool video.. thanks for sharing.

Judith, I couldn't agree more.  The big screen TV alcove is the worst offender of late.  A remodeling company could make a living just by turning those into built-in bookshelves!  :)

I agree.  We have many homes in our area that were built with the big-screen TV niche.  What a great idea about turning it into a bookshelf.

Judith, thanks for the comment.  Maybe the builders could learn something from this...technology moves pretty fast, and homes are built to last.  I also think fondly of those old intercom systems in homes built in the 1970s.

Because the depth of the used-to-be-wonderful-TV-alcove is frequently 22"-ish (because it was built for those large honkin' rear projection TV's) I'm seeing more and more "snack-centers" instead of bookshelves.  Since generally these were in family rooms, they are retrofitting that space by putting in a counter (sometimes a sink) a small under-counter beverage fridge (or wine fridge) and the upper level cabs almost always have a microwave.   I'm laughing at Melissa mentioning those intercom systems .. I'm not sure how much utility they had in their day ---but they are seriously useless now in a home -- but there they are, still hanging on the wall.

Judith, I like the idea of the "snack-center" but I haven't seen one yet.  I will definitely be looking for that as I show houses in the future.  As for the intercoms...we have a ton of those in my area.  It cracks me up everytime I see one.  Sometimes the buyers (usually the men) ask me if I think it still works!  :)
