You may have heard that like Santa Fe, NM and Sedona, AZ, Asheville NC is at the very center for creative pursuit and expression in Western North Carolina (WNC.).
WNC is a region of about 10,000 square miles from the state line of Virginia to that of Georgia that extends north to the border of Tennessee.
It is known for being one of the most beautiful and attractive places on Earth...a place where there is time and space for one to reflect on the blessings in life....
WNC is also known for the cultural arts and folkways of the people who live here and have lived here for centuries. There is so much going on here in the Asheville area. But it is not all about the cultural arts for which WNC is known.
A Big Discussion is going on around real property use here in the WNC ‘s mountains— discussion between “the new arrivals” and descendants of pioneers— discussion between those who would like to build right “at the top of the mountain” and building contractors. Of note and central to the discussion: Developers and builders are subject to Steep Slope Regulations meant to protect home owners and builders as well as the amazing viewsheds of Asheville.
In Asheville, WNC, height limits on buildings have also been adopted. At elevations of more than 2,500 feet, buildings can’t be taller than 35 feet, and at 4,000 feet, they can’t be more than 25 feet tall, or two stories. As you may suspect, there are differing opinions about these matters.
Differing Opinions: Some look at the mountain slopes, once dotted only here and there with an occasional light in the late hours, where now the human-influenced trails of street lights mark the slopes and see the obliteration of a priceless landscape. Others see the ridgetops as private property and extol the engineering feat it took to build there.

A Final Note:
LAND::: When buying mountain real estate do your homework. Asheville area mountain environmental factors such as slope stability can only be determined by state licensed engineers and geologists: Buyers, Sellers and REALTORS® are NOT qualified to make these assessments.
