CHAKRAS AND FENG SHUI TO HARNESS SERENITY AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING
For this week's Asian-inspired theme, I'll share with you another couple of disciplines designed to create inner peace and the equilibrium necessary to handle life's challenging moments.
CHAKRAS
Chakra balancing is based on the ancient Indian belief of energy centers. These 7 energy centers are believed to be located at specific points between the base of the spine and the top of the skull.
Each chakra corresponds to 1 of the 7 colors of the rainbow and vibrates to 1 of the 7 notes in an octave of music. For example, the 3rd chakra is the seat of all emotional living and can be found in the solar plexus. It is here where we keep personal feelings of power, ambition, free will and even anger and hostility. It is assigned yellow for color and resonates to the music note E.
Balancing these chakras is said to promote general health and well-being by ensuring the free flow of life energy (aka prana or qi)) throughout the body. This can be accomplished by meditating on it or otherwise being conscious of it. It is believed that blockages of this free flow of energy will result in physical, mental or emotional illness.
The concept of chakra plays a key role in healing systems like Yoga, Acupressure, Therapeutic touch and Color Therapy.
FENG SHUI
Feng Shui is a philosophy that creates an atmosphere whereby one can work comfortably, efficiently, and successfully by following the patterns of nature. A common example would be to think of yourself as a boat; it is simply easier to sail with the current and wind than against it.
The basic premise involves designing your house in a way that promotes individual well-being. In the philosophy of Feng Shui, everything has energy (qi) and the ability to affect you regardless of whether you're aware of it or not.
There are many factors that need to be addressed i.e., interior and exterior space, light, sounds, smells, materials, furniture arrangement etc. The focus is on gathering energy and diverting it to where it's needed most to maintain a harmonious and well-balanced environment.
