CHAKRAS AND FENG SHUI TO HARNESS SERENITY AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING

For this week's Asian-inspired theme, I'll share with you another couple of disciplines designed to create inner peace and the equilibrium necessary to handle life's challenging moments.

CHAKRAS

Chakra balancing is based on the ancient Indian belief of energy centers.  These 7 energy centers are believed to be located at specific points between the base of the spine and the top of the skull.

Each chakra corresponds to 1 of the 7 colors of the rainbow and vibrates to 1 of the 7 notes in an octave of music.  For example, the 3rd chakra is the seat of all emotional living and can be found in the solar plexus.  It is here where we keep personal feelings of power, ambition, free will and even anger and hostility. It is assigned yellow for color and resonates to the music note E.

Balancing these chakras is said to promote general health and well-being by ensuring the free flow of life energy (aka prana or qi)) throughout the body.  This can be accomplished by meditating on it or otherwise being conscious of it. It is believed that blockages of this free flow of energy will result in physical, mental or emotional illness.

The concept of chakra plays a key role in healing systems like Yoga, Acupressure, Therapeutic touch and Color Therapy.

FENG SHUI

Feng Shui is a philosophy that creates an atmosphere whereby one can work comfortably, efficiently, and successfully by following the patterns of nature.  A common example would be to think of yourself as a boat; it is simply easier to sail with the current and wind than against it.

The basic premise involves designing your house in a way that promotes individual well-being. In the philosophy of Feng Shui, everything has energy (qi) and the ability to affect you regardless of whether you're aware of it or not.

There are many factors that need to be addressed i.e., interior and exterior space, light, sounds, smells, materials, furniture arrangement etc.  The focus is on gathering energy and diverting it to where it's needed most to maintain a harmonious and well-balanced environment.

I never followed much of that genre of thinking.  Maybe that is why accupuncture never helped me.

Jill, we all need balance....and whatever you chose to believe in should give you what you need!

Jill, you are just plain scaring me now like Chief Cook does with her Feng Shui and chakras.  I don't know if I have time to understand it all.  And, Connecticut Home Mortgage, I do know that acupuncture works...Chief Cook had an injury that was healed the same day by acupuncture when even sports medicine guys couldn't fix without surgery!

Hi Jill, I never new that about chakras resonating with different notes. Very interesting. I think I need to look into this a bit more and work on getting mine balanced.

Jill, I like the topic, and have been aware of the energy centers in my own "field".... your picture doesn't show the the "throat chakra"..... only 6 chakras seem to be pictured!  Thanks for a great post and the FYI!

CHM - That's ok. I don't think you should have to believe in something for it to work otherwise it becomes more of a self-fulfilling prophecy and gives credence to the placebo effect.

Ellen - You got it exactly right. We all need balance and it doesn't matter what path you choose to get there.

Ron - I think Chief Cook and I would be good friends. Great endorsement for acupuncture.

Cindy - Eastern philosopy incorporates all kinds of stuff that Western medicine ignores.

Teri - You're right. That's not a complete picture. Thank you for the info.

Jill,  OMG - Did you see that I just wrote a blog about feng shui as well?  I am fascinated by it.  I also bought a beautiful buddha for my office when I re-did it.  His name is Bob.  I'm not buddhist, but this statue made me feel so serene and at one with the universe.  Lord knows I need that when working with Will.

A beautiful buddha named Bob? I'm also a fan of alliteration. Poor Will takes such a beating.
