Well, today was the final game of the 2007 season for the Central Kitsap Junior High Cubs JV Football Team here in Silverdale WA. Our boys played Cedar Heights Junior High from Port Orchard. Both teams were tied for first place in the league going into today's game.

It was a classic nail-biting battle of fairly evenly matched teams. The high scoring game saw the lead change hands serveral times throughout the game. With only :40 seconds to go in the 4th quarter, the Cubs were down by 1 point. Two costly penalties brought our ball back to mid-field, leaving us with a difficult 2nd-and-long situation. Luke dropped back and threw the ball deep into coverage. A player on the opposing team tipped the ball, but Nathan Reese pulled it down, giving us a critical 1st down near Cedar Height's 15 yard line. Two plays later, we punched it in! With the extra-point kick, Central Kitsap won 35-28.

We've had a really great season under the coaching leadership of Mike Fultz and Frank Wilson. A special thanks to Mitch Henderson, Head Coach of the Varsity Team, as well. Thanks guys for all your hard work and giving up your own time for our kids!

The Cubs JV squad went 5 and 1 this year. My youngest son, Luke, had the good fortune of taking the snaps at the quaterback position. For those of you who frequent my posts, you already know how proud this father is of his son's accomplishments on the gridiron. I've been keeping a running commentary on each game (complete with YouTube video feeds) both here and on my outside blog, SOUNDBITEBLOG.

It's programs like this that give our kids such meaningful opportunities to learn the value of hard work, team work, and good sportsmanship. These are positive traits that will carry throught with them throughout their lives!

Congratulations, Central Kitsap Junior High JV Squad! You guys are AWESOME!!!

Way to go Luke, I have enjoyed reading your stories about your son's team. I think it is great and he seems to turning into an all star QB.

Oh don't you just hate it when the season is over. Time for the weight room. All my sons played QB, even now I end up watching the offense in games. Good job, Luke.

Jay -  one can only hope! Whatever his passion is or will be, we will encourage and support him along the way!

Missy - yes, I do hate it. There is this huge empty spot now. Thankfully, we still have NCAA football and college hoops....

Tom -  my lips are sealed, buddy!....

Congrats gentlemen!!!

5-1 is pretty impressive. I would assume that earns some kind of trophy......no?

I still have all my trophies going all the way back to 4th grade. Who knows, maybe these days everyone gets a trophy. I'm just glad they still keep score on the football fields :)

Bob - not at the Jr. Hi level... but they're having a celebration get-together, so that should be fun. Now, as Missy suggests, it's off to the weight room for the off-season....(and it wouldn't hurt for Dad to go along!)

There he is, and this is the update we've been looking for. Really exciting final game. Suspect you never yelled once throughout, proud Dad that you are.

Very cool.
