Homemade Thomas The Train Costume

homemade thomas costume

I've made a lot of Halloween costumes over the years, but it's been awhile.  Time to start creating for a new generation.

In my recent post on homemade Halloween costumes, I promised an update when my grandson Zack's costume was done.

Thomas The Train was completed just in time for Zack's train-themed birthday party.

If you want to make your own Thomas The Train costume...I found my inspiration online from a blog called Mother Maker which has great step-by-step instructions.

I made a few small changes, but for the most part followed their directions.

I used mostly items I had, so it only cost $18 for paint, tape and hat boxes.

A lot of work, but well worth the effort.

Sharon, "two two" is exactly how train  should sound in Russian language. Love the costume. You have a lot of patience. Happy Halloween.

Sharon, you have a real talent...aside from staging - prop designs, and costumes should be regular parts of your craft.

Anna:  Thank you for noticing the "two two" - I wasn't sure anyone would get it.  LOL!  I'm not sure it's patience as much as determination!  Sometimes I'm too determined for my own good!

Steve:  Now that would be Heaven!

Rose:  Thank you so much!  I just followed some directions and added some extra details.  I love creating!

Shar:  Tons of work...some of it was frustrating.  But, I'm happiest when I'm creating, so it was a fun project!

Roger:  Thank you!  He had his party last weekend, but today is his actual b'day so his "year in review" post will be later today.

Valerie:  I'm lucky to have him in my life!  I made the train, but Zack's mom dressed him.  She had conductor hats (like he is wearing) for each kid at the party with their name on it.

John:  Those are the happiest memories!

Hi Sharon--the finished costume is absolutely amazing.  You have an immense amount of talent.  I have tackled a lot of things, but this looks pretty daunting.  I saw your other post on Zack's birthday and I'm sure he enjoyed this.

Janet:  Don't sell yourself short.  It was a lot of work, but basically just following directions and a little creativity.  It was very time consuming...and required time for the paint to dry.  He really did enjoy his party, it was a fun day.  Thank you!

Sharon ~ that train costume is the cutest!  Of course the conductor is having a blast, too!  Can he "wear" it again next year or will he be too big?

Maureen:  Thank you.  I have no idea if he will be able to wear it again next year...or if he will even want to.  We will probably come up with something new.
