"Poisonous and Deadly"

Photography by Robert Swetz 2011

Vegas Bob went for a little hike in the desert after work today and guess what he ran into?

WOW ... a very close call for VB and it's a good thing he had a telephoto lens to capture this creature in action. It's also a good thing this snake wasn't any closer to VB because it is extremely poisonous and can be very deadly if there is not a hospital close by and or if you don't have a Snake Bite kit with you ...

Hello Liz and thanks for stopping by and VB is very lucky to have captured this photo, and to have not been bitten!

Not one of my favorite animals.  We killed 3 copperheads in the last two weeks and I didn't get that close as this photo.

Would NOT want to run across that critter out in the wild.  I agree that the telephoto was the perfect option for that encounter!!

Hello Kay and VB had a 200 mm telephoto lens, otherwise I would have never gotten this photo!

What kind of zoom lens were you using???? Hopefully you were far, far, away from those fangs.

VB, we sometimes see some good sized Eastern diamondbacks while golfing but they are usually docile.  Here you've captured a classic coil and the venom, oh the venom, oozing from those fangs.  That's a gnarly looking thing!

That is one eerie close up of a rattler VB!  It is a good thing you had a zoom lens or else you would definitely be needing some antivenom for sure!

Hi VB,

So glad this snake is not  near my house. I do not like snakes and they just creep me out. I used to have to run out on these isolated roads and we always saw poisonous snakes but just ran around them. Yes we let them have the road and hoped some car would come and run them over.

Happy Halloween.

Are you kidding me?  How could you stick around to take such an amazing pic, I am running for the hills just looking at the picture let alone the real thing!

Hello again everyone and I would say the chances of capturing this photo of this rattler like this is very rare. The snake did jump at VB several times and once again without the telephoto this photo pic would have never existed ...

He is really cranky and looks dull, bet he is getting ready to lose his outgrown skin.

It must be uncomfortable to have no hands to scratch itchy skin or to help peel off too- tight clothing.

Then a pesky human comes along and wants to take pictures of him wearing outgrown raggedy scales?

Whats a snake to do?

Bob, I haven't run into one of those for awhile.  I have to side with Indiana Jones in that I too, hate snakes!
