The Saddest Blog I've Ever Had To Write

By
Real Estate Agent with Southwest Missouri Realty

I’m holding back tears (and not doing that very well) as I write this to say farewell to our two beloved dogs Boomer and Casey. Last weekend was one of the most horrible weekends of our lives. Through a terrible accident we lost not one, but both of our two best friends.

Boomer & Casey

We had Boomer for three years and
Casey for nine years. These weren’t outside dogs, they were like our kids. Our house is strangely quiet now and everywhere we look and everything we do reminds us that they aren’t there anymore. No more playfully growling at the laundry basket when we washed clothes. No more tug of war or sitting in our lap, whether we wanted it at the time or not.

If you are one of our regular blog readers, you may have noticed that Casey or Boomer sometimes showed up in our videos and pictures. It’s difficult to see the pictures now but we will leave them out there in memory of them.

Some people may think this is silly and that they were just animals but they weren’t. As I said they were our best friends. I’ll always miss Casey’s hugs and Boomer jumping all the way up in my arms to catch him. The Bible doesn’t mention if dogs go to heaven but I like to think they are still together running and playing together.

We will always dearly miss them but we have to move on. Friday we went to the animal shelter and picked up our new best friend! I'll tell you that story soon!

What a tragedy, but after a painful loss it helps to re-direct the love.  Sounds like a lucky animal from the shelter will be blessed with love and affection.

Betty & John, Have experienced that pain many times, it's never easy.  It's an implied contract every time we adopt a dog or cat that as some point they're going to leave us.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I couldn't imagine the pain you both must be going through. I have a dog who is like my child and I would be lost without him. Thanks for sharing and I hope you find comfort in your new best friend!

Hi Betty and John.  I am really sorry about your loss.  A few years ago, I had a beloved pet die, and I was absolutely devastated.  At that time, someone told me about a beautiful poem, The Rainbow Bridge, and it made me feel a little bit better.  Here it is . . .

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Oh Betty and John.  My heart just aches for you.  We lost our beloved Jack Russell, Max, very unexpectedly three years ago.  After that, my angel Rodney came into our life.  I so feel your pain.  Just three weeks ago, while we were out of the country vacationing, we received word that our dear Rodney had died, oh so very unexpectedly.

I'm certain there is a doggy heaven and I'm certain your fur children are looking down on you.  Rest assured, you will meet with them again one day.

Cyber hugs to you both.

Thanks everyone for all your well wishes.  It's has been a tough time.  They just take over our lives.  I think it's because we can go off and leave them for a few hours, not feed them right on time, not go on that atticipated walk and send them to the corner for a time out and no matter what they still loved us...
