Bill Langstaff's wife celebrated her birthday Tuesday with a French Dinner at Newport Beach

Ed Carter's wife celebrated her birthday on Sunday - with some alone time while Ed and his

daughter were at the Indian Princess Camp-out.

 

Announcements:

Linda Bartrom-Olsen- talked about the photos from the Fall Festival

and about "Pennies From Heaven' which should be giving Rotary a check for $2000

Tonight is also homecoming for Villa Park High and the Spartans are playing El Dorado

to go 8-0--

Nagi Ibrahim announced next week's speaker-- Dr Ray Cascieri of St Joseph's Hospital

He also announced that we have some open weeks to fill for February and March-

contact Nagi if you have a potential speaker

Steven Pollack- invited everyone to the Africa Open House on November 4th from 7-10 PM

at Steve Lopushinsky's Photo Studio across from the Main Place Mall in Orange.

Photos from Steven's and Steve's African bicycle adventure will be shown along with

appetizers and wine.

Pam Dunn- Talked about the November 5th Wine Cellar Event to benefit the Eddie Nash

Foundation-

She also talked about the Halloweenfest this Sunday at the Villa Park City Hall

we will be serving our famous Halloweenies, Batwurst and goulaid.

Set up begins at 3 PM - the event goes from 4:30-7 PM and features

contests for the best costume for kids and this year for dogs.

Ed Carter- will be at the Halloweenfest representing the Villa Park Elementary Dad's Club.

They will be selling light sticks to benefit the school.

Wayne Silzel -announced the Trunk or Treat Event this Friday, October 28th at Covenant

Christian School. Pot Luck 6 PM Families A-M - bring a main dish

Families N-Z bring dessert

7-8 PM - Trunk or Treat for the kids.

Also Thursday November 10, 2011 at 8;30 AM in the Sanctuary

the school will honor our veterans. Special Guests: Mayor Carolyn Caveche

and Pearl Harbor Survivor Mal Middlesworth.

Teri Brooks announced a meeting of the Villa Park Boat Parade Committee on November 2nd

at 7 PM at the Villa Park City Hall- this will be a planning meeting for this year's event

the theme this year is " Golden Holiday Voyage- Sailing into our 50th Year"

Eric Sense gave out invitations for the June Relay for Life Event

Jill Kuli- announced she is looking for volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels.

The commitment would include delivering the meals one Monday every three months.

Bob Meyer announced a new club program called " Perfect Attendance" He and our

other new members Ken Caplin and Mike Brunhober have a combined 90 years of

perfect Rotary attendance. Those members who have earned perfect attendance will be

given a pin to commemorate the years; different pins will be given for different levels

of attendance. Eric Sense will keep attendance records. Awards will be given at our

demotion party.

Pete Moriarty also spoke about the program and thinks it will be good for club retention.

Bryan Nash announced our Fall Festival " Magical Evening of Giving" Totals

$52,000 gross ---> $34,000 net. Congrats to everyone for the success of this event.

Jane McDonald was ecstatic with the results.

 

Happy Bucks:

Bob Kreisberg- is happy his son Jason in town from Singapore and may take a job in either

New York or somewhere on the west coast in either the infectious disease field or the

algae based fuels area.

Tom Grundy- talked about the great job Pete Moriarty is doing with membership and

was very impressed with Monday evening's Fireside Chat

Wayne Silzel- spent a week in Branson with his wife Mary and friends, but he also visited

Joplin, Missouri and was impressed with the state of the recovery underway following

the devastating Tornado earlier this year. He was impressed with the "can-do attitude"

and the response by groups who came in to help provide shelter and food.

Teri Brooks is very impressed not only with the Villa Park Spartan Football Team record,

but by how wonderful the kids are.

Bryan Nash congratulated the club for all the accomplishments this year, for our continued

growth and Pete Moriarty's great job as membership chair. He feels like it is a great

privilege to lead the club at this time.

Rotary Foundation ABCs

 

 

First Tom Grundy announced that purchasing raffle tickets for the upcoming Foundation Dinner

will get you double recognition points till Friday. That means for every book of tickets you

purchase at $100 you get 200 points toward a Paul Harris Award. The Dinner is on November

19th at The Old Ranch Country Club, Seal Beach. 1st Prize is a trip to Volcano Village,

Big Island. Hawaii; 2nd prize 50inch Big Screen HD/TV; 3rd Prize Ipad2.

Ken Caplin then spoke about his transformation from Rotary Member to "Rotarian"

in that he joined the Orange North Rotary in 1980, but it wasn't until June of 2001 that he

really understood the power of Rotary to accomplish projects here and abroad. He spoke about

the great experience our Monday evening Fireside chat was and how we need to understand that

it is the Rotary Members that make the Foundation work.

He spoke about District Designated Funds and how 50% of the funds donated to the Rotary

Foundation Come back to the individual clubs after 3 years. The Rotary Foundation receives funds into a Permanent Fund that comes from benefactors, bequests and donor advised funds or via Restricted Funds from Polio Eradication, Matching Grants. The 50% of the monies are then distributed as District Designated Funds that go toward scholarships, grants or district simplified grants or to a World Fund that supports Group Study Exchanges, Matching Grants or Rotary Peace Scholars.

Mike Brunhober spoke about the upcoming Caborca Trip to do Polio Inoculations on the weekend

of February 10-12. Spots are still available, but get your information to Mike before the end of the month. Cost $225 plus $50/night for hotel accommodations(can be shared if single).
