Golden Oldies — #19 (October 29, 2011)

Reblogger Jim Frimmer
Real Estate Agent with HomeSmart Realty West CalBRE #01458572

Russel's every Saturday Golden Oldies post is always a joy to read, and the Golden Oldies themselves are even more fun to read! In some cases you get to see a Golden Oldies as a young blogger, and then you can go read a current post to see how that Golden Oldie has grown up and matured as a blogger.

This is a reblog, and I always disable comments on reblogs out of respect for the original author who did all the work. If you would like to leave a comment, click on the link below and leave your comment with Russel who deserves your support with your comments.

Golden Oldies #19 (October 29, 2011)

Happy Saturday!Check in here each Saturday no later than noon Pacific Time and immediately find ten to fifteen Golden Oldies that I think are worthy of reading, commenting on, and perhaps even reblogging.

How Golden Oldies works: I choose the people first and then I slog through their blogs for days on end to find an old post that is worthy of reblogging and that has few comments. After I read the post, I choose a snippet to include here.

Once you appear as a Golden Oldies, you won't appear again. No same old, same old here. No highlighting friends week after week. No highlighting any posts that have already been featured by ActiveRain.

In my blog we spread the wealth around to try to help as many people as possible get a little extra Google juice and some more comment points. If you haven't appeared yet, don't be surprised when you do!

If you don't like any of my choices here, check past Golden Oldies since I always search out posts that are not time-sensitive. Of course, you can also go find your own! So there!

Following are today's Golden Oldies. Read, comment, and reblog. Be sure to tell them that Russel Ray sent you their way!

  1. Ron MarshallSomeone has to watch out for abandoned pets (October 12, 2010), by Ron Marshall, Marshall Enterprises (Saint Michael, Minnesota). ....another foreclosure. I worked for about two hours before I heard the tiny sounds.  There was a lot of "stuff" left over and as I was sorting it I kept hearing muffled sounds....
  2. Sheila AndersonOnce it is sold.... (July 10, 2009), by Sheila Anderson, RE/MAX Country (East Brunswick, New Jersey). There are several types of agents, but only two types of properties: those that are available and those that are not. ... Let us not make business more difficult.
  3. Lynn FriedmanHappiest man on Earth (March 15, 2011), by Lynn Friedman, Ready to Serve YOU! Buy-Lease-Sell-Property Management (Atlanta, Georgia). Have a sense of humor, especially about yourself. If you can't laugh at yourself, then you're going to have a hard life. ... It's important to be comfortable but money doesn't make you happy. Look at all of the rich celebrities. They have all the money in the world and they are not happy.
  4. Sharon TaraUse your super power today and see what happens (May 31, 2009), by Sharon Tara, Sharon Tara Transformations (Portsmouth, New Hampshire). We all have it, a super power that doesn't get used anywhere near as often as it should.  A power so strong, it can change the world.  What would happen if we all used it, on the same day?
  5. Kwee HusetWhat is my house's value? Value is in the eye of the beholder... (), by Kwee Huset, Kwee Huset Realty (Venice, Florida). My beholder is better than your beholder. Too bad we can't get all of these beholders to agree. Life would be so much simpler but maybe not nearly as exciting.
  6. Debbie LaityI know I'm a real estate broker, but why do I feel like a used car saleman (August 14, 2010), by Debbie Laity, Cedaredge Land Company (Cedaredge, Colorado). We did a little tire kicking of our own. When the salesman found out we were both real estate agents, he kind of backed off his high pressure sales pitch...maybe he's watched the news and read the paper and figured EJ wasn't going to be able to afford that shiny new car.
  7. Jan GreenTo ask for a retainer fee or not to ask for a retainer fee (January 13, 2010), by Jan Green, RE/MAX Excalibur Realty (Scottsdale, Arizona). Why drive yourself silly with zero expectation that you'll be earning a commission?  Retainer fees aren't for everyone, but I think it puts the idea in the client's noggin that you mean business and that your time is worth something!
  8. Cindy WestfallConnecting buyers and sellers after closing (September 7, 2010), by Cindy Westfall, Prudential NW Properties (Tualatin, Oregon). How often when purchasing a home do we have lots of questions that you just wish you could contact the Seller and ask them about? I welcome the calls but know many Sellers would not and just want to be done with the deal and move on. Then again, there are the Seller's who have raised families in these homes and would love to help the new owner with all the quirks each home has
  9. Andrew MooersThree little words a real estate broker should not use very frequently (May 29, 2009), by Andrew Mooers, Mooers Realty (Houlton, Maine). If you are involved in the process and expect a commission for the sale of real estate, you have to know the real estate. You don't just show up for a check and smile at a closing. Do your "homework" on the property or person you represent.
  10. Lee and Pamela St. PeterSometimes you just need the help of friends! (May 8, 2009), by Lee and Pamela St. Peter, Prudential YSU Realty (Raleigh, North Carolina). It's not just about survival of the fittest but also about surviving with a little help from your friends...
  11. Peter and Linda Pfann12 Ways to Lose a Sale (February 19, 2010), by Peter and Linda Pfann, Cornerstone Properties (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada). Many buyers will not make a decision to buy simply because they do not know what the next step is and are afraid to ask. Let your buyers know the only decision they have to make is, "Do I want this home?" Emphasize home, not house.
  12. Tim LorenzToday I had to think how to get the most out of my business (September 9, 2009), by Tim Lorenz, Keller Williams Realty (Mission Viejo, California). Where do I need to go?  How to I increase profit and stay in the black?  Where is the market headed?  How do I stay ahead of the curve?
  13. Bob MillerFrustrated with sellers? (February 16, 2010), by Bob Miller, Keller Williams Cornerstone Realty (Ocala, Florida). I often hear the phrase "I'm not giving it away!" It makes me wonder what the seller means "give it away?" Do they mean they think the price is way below what they thought they would get four or five years ago?  Do they think those "paper profits" were somehow real?
  14. Dagny EasonIs there a good use for old balloons? (November 18, 2009), by Dagny Eason, Dagny's Real Estate (Wilton, Connecticut). Whenever I conduct an open house for a listing, I always bring loads of balloons to it. I love to use them to attach to signs to grab folks’ attention to come in, but I also love to have the balloons in the house. That way, it looks festive and welcoming.
