4 Comments on The Grotto in Bancker, Louisiana
There is so much more in this area that you didn't photograph or write about. It was, however, a nice piece.
Bancker is one of the most peaceful and serene places in our area. My family owns property nearby and some of my family is buried in the cemetery there. My brother died recently and we plan to have services at the Grotto since he requested to spread his ashes in the river he so loved.
Your piece and the pictures were very well done.
Thank you Guy and Lorraine for stopping by my blog. I love driving the roads in the southern part of Vermilion parish and hope to go by the Grotto real soon.
Dr Saucier,
I was there twice within the last 4 months. I have great pics of the grotto and the graveyard. My great grandparents are buried there and I will be returning there very soon for a memorial for my uncle. I use to go there when I was young since my uncle/aunt had a beautiful house at the bend of the river. This was when the ferry still operable. If you are there when the sun sets, you can take the best pics standing at the end of the road where it meets the river. Too, I think the new walk way is now completed!
