Ever notice that when you put a pot of flowers in the window this time of year, the next time you look, there's a blank hole starring back? The flowers have all decided to move towards the window, to soak up all the sunlight. Well, this is kinda the premise for Daylight Savings Time.
Benjamin Franklin thought of this grand idea to move our clocks forward in April and back in November. This way we would have more time to work or play in the day light.
In order for us to know what we're doing on this day, we have developed a clever way of remembering. "Spring forward" and "Fall back."
Yes, the dreaded day of changing our clocks, ALL OF THEM!! Unless you're in Arizona, though. We stay the same. Gotta admit, I really like that! However, it's enough to make a gal's head spin trying to remember what time it is in everyone else's state! Thank goodness for Google!
Studies have shown that with DST, retail sales went up, traffic accidents went down, along with crime rate. We get more Vitamin D from the sunlight, but we also have a rise in skin cancer.
We can also use this day as a reminder to change the batteries in our smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
I realize this was intended to give us extra time to work and play, but seriously, is it worth it??
