FALL SEASON OF MIRACLES
Almost a year ago, on November 7th, 2010 my husband was asked by his doctor to have a scan of his heart taken. My husband had experienced shortness of breath and his doctor wanted to be sure he was OK. There appeared to be some blockage of a vein and he was asked to have another test.
A few days later we went to the hospital were my husband had a heart catherization which showed a cardiac vein and coronary artery completely blocked. He was then whisked immediately into the OR to remove the blockage. After about 4 hours of surgery he was moved to recovery. The next day he was just like new and impatient to leave the hospital. He is definitely not a good patient. I felt sorry for his nurses until I saw the needles they threatened him with if he didn't cooperate.
After the operation, his surgeon told us that my husband had, in effect, a new heart. He speculated that my husband was good for at least another 30 years. The doctor went on to explain that my husband was very lucky. He was days away from a massive heart attach from which he might not have recovered.
After a year my husband is feeling very good. Unfortunately, he is not doing all the doctor suggest that he do. But we are working on that.
Fall has always been my favorite season, beautiful season, a season of renewal. Now I consider Fall my Season of Miracles. My miracle is that I have my husband and his brand new heart, both of which I expect to be around for a long time.
