What Content Should My Real Estate Website Have?

Always remember your real estate website should serve only one purpose: building your email mailing list.  That is, your website needs to entice visitors with enough valuable, current local real estate information that they will want to sign up your mailing list and receive information updates from you on a regular basis.  If they don’t sign up, it’s likely these visitors will never come back to your site, so you won’t have any further opportunity for building relationships with them.  So getting people signing up for your mailing list is absolutely essential.  Search Engine Optimization drives qualified prospects to your site, and your site captures these leads so you can develop relationships with these people via email.

Your website’s information and style should reflect your target prospects.  That is, your website’s content should cater exclusively to interest and needs of people living in and around your farm areas.   Your site’s information should obviously focus on the local real estate market but it should also have resources of interest to people in the community.

Don’t try to be all things to all people!  Conventional thinking among real estate professionals is you shouldn’t restrict yourself to just a couple of neighborhoods because you’ll lose opportunities.  In fact, the opposite is true.  When you focus on a particular aspect of real estate (whether it be a small geographic area or particular types of property) and design your website to cater exclusively to people seeking those types of properties, search engines will recognize this and rank you highly in their search results for your specialty areas.  When people see your website’s focused (and therefore more valuable) content and consequent high search engine ranking, you’ll have a much greater chance of being regarded as being the best real estate professional in the area. You’ll be seen as the one who will get top dollar for their properties and you’ll get more sign-ups for your mailing list.  Remember, that’s the whole point of having a real estate website.

Thank you Gabrielle.  I just moved to a new market and set my website up to service/cater to a relatively small area. I'm glad to know that I probably have not shot myself in the foot! Time will certainly tell...
