Wurstfest – November 4-13, 2011

WURSTFEST 2011 is almost here!!

If you live anywhere in South Texas you have without a doubt heard of Wurstfest…

If you are new to the area or if you have never attended, you may ask…”What exactly is Wurstfest?”

Wurstfest, a “Ten Day Salute to Sausage,” began back in 1961 and was originally called “Sausage Festival.” Within a few short years the name was changed to “Wurst Week” and then to “Wurstfest.” Wurstfest has now been drawing visitors to the German-influenced Hill Country town of New Braunfels (just outside San Antonio) for over four decades. And, the Sausage Festival that once drew only a couple thousand, now brings in well over 100,000 people each year! The entire WURST STORY is pretty incredible!

This year, The 51st Annual Wurstfest will run from November 4th - 13th. During this 10 day period, you’ll find a people enjoying variety of Bavarian Style Entertainment, including a Games, Rides, Polka Dancing & Contests, Music & Special Events and of course Food & Drinks!

Let’s talk a little more about the Food & Drinks…Cause it’s a pretty big deal! Wurst Tacos, Sauerkraut Pizzas, Corn on the Cob, Shish-ka-bobs, Wurst-ka-bobs Potato Pancakes, Strudel, Pretzels and ALL KINDS OF SAUSAGE…I guess this is what we call German/Texas Food! And you can’t forget the beer (there will be wine & spirits available too…but, common…it’s all about the beer)! You will be sure to see plenty of people (dressed in their Lederhosen & Beer Maid outfits) walking (possibly stumbling) around with multiple cups (or pitchers) of beer in their hands!

Of course not everyone will be in costume…but rest assure, most that don’t will at least end up in some kind of funny hat by the end of the night!

If you ask us, It only seems fair & accurate to refer to it as a “Ten Day Salute to Sausage & BEER!”

Whether you are hanging out in DAS KLEINE ZELT (the Little Tent), DAS GROSSE ZELT (the Big Tent), WURSTHALLE, or just roaming the grounds there will be entertainment all around you! (WURSTFEST 2011 EVENTS & SCHEDULE)

Wurstfest opens on weekdays at 5 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays at 11 am. Wurstfest closes at 12 Midnight on Thursday and Fridays, 10 pm Sunday through Wednesday, and 1 am on Saturdays and at 10 pm on the last Sunday.

Festival admission is $8.00 ($6.00 if purchased by November 3) and includes access to all entertainment areas including the Wursthalle. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
