Whole Foods: Can Boise handle the new natural food store?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros

For years (since 2006 to be exact), there has been a whirlwind of rumors that Whole Foods will be coming to Boise.  Finally, it's coming to fruition.  Any day now, Whole Foods will break ground for a 35,000 sqft building on the corner of Myrtle and Front Street near downtown Boise.  A 15,000 sqft Walgreens Pharmacy will neighbor the natural food store.

But not so fast!  If all goes as planned, construction on the 6 acre site should be completed within a year.  Approximately 175, full-time and part-time, employees will soon be helping new customers in the downtown venue.

There has been a lot of controversery whether the new box store will affect the local Boise Co-Op.  Which one will you support?

Well, as I don't live in Boise I'd support the Co-op

Whole Foods is a good company and jobs are important. But I'd still support the Co-op

I agree with Doug. I would support the Co-op instead of a big name grocery chain. However, jobs are hard to come by and they will introduce great job opportunities. Many of the co-op long time customers will still probably go there.

The job creation is great - especially for the downtown area.  We do have a Walgreens on every corner, but not in that particular area.  Big brand stores, such as Whole Foods, is a step towards bringing more stores of the same nature to the area.  However, I do believe supporting the Co-Op is going to be critical for the overall local economy.
