I just found out that my favorite manger of all time Joe Torre was just hired to a three year contract to manage the Los Angeles Dodgers. I;m a big baseball fan and used to play so this was news I anticipated.
Does this mean that I start rooting for the Dodgers? Well my daughters was named after him...but spelled different. Since I was originally from New York... I could never start to root for the Marlins even though they beat the Yankees in the 2003 World series. I actually was at the onlt game that the Yankees won and it ended at around 2am in the rain. Good luck to the new Dodgers and the fans of Los Angeles...you are in for a treat. good luck to Joe and I know he will have the same success that he had for 12 glorious years in New York.
Bye Joe...you will be missed...I'll be watching the games! I guess I was hoping he would come manage Florida.

Neal, I just saw your comment on Karen's blog. I bleed Dodger Blue. I'm looking forward to seeing what Joe can do with my team. I've always liked him, even if he was with....your team. You are welcome to join the ranks of us Dodger fans. Just please don't start talking about how much better things were in New York! ;)
Neal - what a class act Joe Torre is. The Yankees lost a jewel and I doubt they get anything like Joe ever again! I say the Dodgers are in for a treat! Joe makes me proud to be a baseball fan.
Truthfully just like when Bill Parcells left the Giants. I followed him and watched all the teams he coached in the NFL so Torre was the same and hopefully we will get back out to LA to catch a game or here in Florida.
I can't believe it happened. But you know they are going to start the rebuild and you can see a new ownership doing things differently. He loved the city and I know it will be a great fit there with Lasorda.
Hey Neal - Bear is a HUGE Yankees fan, and I just asked him what he thought of Joe moving to the Dodgers - no comment at all. Not sure what that means.....
Neal I have been a Yankee fan for 47 years. I have seen the Yankees make many mistakes during that time, but non of them were as big as this one. I wish Joe the best and pray that the new Joe will be able to fill one of the old Joe's shoes.
Coming out of LA, we liked the Dodgers. And we liked them when they were in Brooklyn. We also like the Yankees, but we don't like George right now. Come to think of it, there are a few George's who are out of their minds these days. Our ideal world series is both of them.
Like Mattingly staying with Torre, and predicted the choice for Giradi. He had the experience. But we won't be rooting as much for the Yanks next year. Son Hank is not coming out of the starting gates very well.
Yankee management lied. They said Torrie was the man they wanted, yet ALL oOF A SUDDEN become budget conscious and give him a low-ball offer?!?! If you want him, pay him like you want him. If not, they should have fired him the day after they suffered that third loss to Cleveland.
But Joe in LA? - maybe he can go to the Toledo MudHens, too!
Great manager...I actually liked him when he was with the Mets..unfortunately he didn't have the same success. Also caught a few games with Atlanta. He actually was a great player if you click his link you'll see his record.
Gary,
No matter what the reason was..they made a big mistake...best manger since Joe McCarthy and Miller Huggins and Casey Stengel. I hope the new Joe does well and I think you will see more of a dismantling of a team...they have new people running the team and you'll see new people playing...Jeter will become the mentor for the younger players.
Art,
They knew they weren't going to get him to sign..they really would have fired him ..but this was a way to get rid of him without the public saying they fired him...but in the end everyone knew their ploy.
Neal - You could always become a Red Sox fan:) Red Sox Nation is an equal opportunity group:) After all they are the World Champions. Down in FL there are more Red Sox fans than Devil Ray Fans so when they play each other the games feel like home field advantage for the Sox. ( I think I heard it was that way for the Yanks too). happy cheering!
