Getting in bed with Zillow

By
Real Estate Agent with HER Realtors

daisyI have an entry on my other blog about Zillow... actually I have a bunch of entries on  Columbus Best Blog about Zillow.  I should mention... when Zillow was born there was an idea to never say "Zillow" ... never give the brand name a boost....just call Zillow "Z." Naive?

Recently on my other blog I wrote a simple little thing called.. Loves Z, Loves Z not

Real Living a real estate company was an early supporter of Zillow.  I was mortified the first day Zillow opened up shop to see Real Living ads on the site. I had heard of Zillow. Zillow was going to replace real estate agents, I heard.

Real Living has a blog. The Real Living Blog has written about Zillow, a couple of times.  They've never mentioned loving Z. Or not loving Z.  I can not speak for Real Living on either of my blogs obviously.

Real Living put the Zillow AVM on the Real Living Website.  Joel at The Future of Real Estate Marketing wrote:

"Midwest-based broker, Real Living has announced that it has integrated Zillow.com data and valuations

on its web site. No news here you say. Loads of companies have incorporated Zillow API, right?

Well think again. Check out how they've put them to use. I think it's excellent."

Real Living Blog about "partnering" with Zillow

"Real Living First National Franchisor to Incorporate Zillow.comTM Data and Valuations"

Another entry on Real Livings Blog is about The Real Living Real Estate Symposium in October 2006. A representative of Zillow was in Columbus with the Real Living management and franchisees:

"Jeff Somers discusses Zillow.com's role in real estate industry
Jeff Somers, director of partner relations with Zillow.com, discussed Zillow's active role in the real estate industry at Real Living's Real Estate Industry Summit on Oct. 30.

Zillow.com, which recently partnered with Real Living, offers free online data and home valuations to homebuyers and sellers."

Real Living is a company which has been very innovative with technology.  Real Living has done a great job of looking for partners in technology that enhance our business rather than businesses who want our listings and want to sell the leads from the listings back to us.

The other day when Inman news wrote of Zillow's new business plan I wrote on my other blog:

"December 7 while I was "waiting and seeing" whether the "sky was falling" or whether Zillow was the next best thing since sliced bread....I wrote an entry about Zillow.... when I went to grab a link to the Zillow AVM form the HER Real Living or Real Living's website... the link to Zillow's AVM was gone...  "

There's lots about Zillow out there on the real estate blogosphere again.... One of my favorite blogs Sellsius° wrote

Zillow Comes Clean:Yes, I am a National Listing Site on December 7th.  "keep your eye on the Zestimate"

"the switcheroo"

If you put a listing on Trulia and on Zillow is there a difference in the way the data is used? Is there a differnce in the ownership of the data between Zillow and other places you advertise listings? Just wondering.

Edit 2012 links were  broken or misdirected so they've been deleted.

I have recieved 3 leads since posting my listings with Zillow since last Thursday. 2 out of the 3 seem like very good leads.

What is Zillow.com doing wrong? It appears that they`re trying to gain market share like Yahoo.com or Google.com..

Scott great to hear you got some leads. Keep up the good work!

I don't know that I wrote that Zillow or anyone is doing anything wrong.  Gaining market share, getting traffic on a website are all good things.

? This entry is historical, not much editorial here at all ... OK I did venture a guess that Real Living does not love Zillow anymore.

MM,

have you seen Livedeal.com.. They want to charge $39.95 per month for 5 listings. Seems to be the new trend..

I am not familiar with Livedeal.com looking at MarketLeap.com  Livedeal has less than 1/10 the search engine saturation that Zillow.com does.... but hey what is Livedeal.com "doing wrong? It appears that they`re trying to"  make money "like Yahoo.com or Google.com" or  Trulia, HER Real Living, Real Living, Coldwell Banker, Keller Williams, Re/Maxor Florida List For Less,  etc.  different business model, if they are getting  $39.95 for 5 listings for a month and their clients are getting leads they are satisfied with, what does it matter to someone who is not using Livedeal.com ?

Do you begrudge Livedeal.com making money? Getting something for free or cheap is the be all and end all to some... not everyone...

I personally like the way the Trulia site looks; and very interesting to hear about Scott's success with Zillow leads; maybe it's me but I like the layout of Trulia the best of all those guys.

Scott got three leads and Ben's phone has not rung?

Of course Ben has only one property to sell.. and I can't remember is Ben a FSBO or a Make Me Move?

Sellsius° called Make Me Move... 3M I thought somehow a company based in MN (I don't remember what 3M does? I have a client who works for 3M...) was involved... then I reread Sellsius... and realized 3M is Marke Me Move.  They (which ever one wrote it ... Rudy or Joseph) also wrote: "USP"...  I considered it being a package delievery service that wears brown uniforms, I thought maybe United States Postal... I thought about asking.. what USP is... then I decided not to...

"Z" has diminished itself to a real estate site of insignificant value.

We might as well let children determine their own food choices.
We might as well let folks drive without licenses.
We might as well just open up the doors and let buyers go on in.

Once the seller's entered their own homes on the site, it became irrelevant.

Good riddance.

Jay:  Thanks for the reminder of what 3M is all about..  and for the use of the plow share...  Jonathan Dalton wrote of Zillow, If you can't beat them... I thought of the plow share with the comic blood...

Lenn: Sellsius Blog points out Zillow stiil wants to entertain you.. well maybe not you personally Lenn but Zillow is online entertainment.

Zillow is an advertising site. The listings, the Z***mates etc... are all there to get traffic, post your listings (for free) so they can sell ads around the listings to people that don't want you to get your own leads. If they really become relevant... we could be in trouble. Right now, looking at my own neighborhood, Zip-Realty has a big ad offering a 20% commission kick back ... are they still in business?

Real Living has severed their relationship with Zillow.  A mass email went out to all of the agents nationally.  There will not be a wedding for sure.
