As if the Everglades of South Florida did not have enough problems trying to sustain it's wildlife habitat another problem presents itself in the form snakes. Yeah, of course there are snakes in South Florida, but pythons are not indigenous to the area. This probably all started out with a few boneheaded pet owners releasing their pythons in the wilds of the Everglades when they either got sick of them or they got too big. Perhaps they thought they were doing the right thing by the snake?
Hey, I'm all for freedom for all animals, but these snakes belong in their country of origin. They are destroying South Florida's native species with wreckless abandon, so much so that the state has instituted a hunting season just for them. You may think to yourself, "How much damage can these pythons actually cause?" The answer is simple after you click on the link below to view some of the pictures of what they have done. Caution; These pictures are not pretty.
They eat almost everything in sight for one and that is enough. One ate an alligator for crying out loud, and then blew up! Another ate a deer. A whole deer! If they can do this imagine what they can do to a human. In the future, do not release your pets in the Everglades. They do so much more harm than good. Better yet, don't buy them in the first place.
