Yes, inspiration as Ginger says.  You are amazing and I am sure all your business is in order because you can think and visualize easily when working.  Good job.

Ginger,

In regards to the bedding hanging system.  I have a few thoughts.

First, it is not actually a closet pole.  My dad is a civil engineer and approaches these warehouse challenges with weight bearing issues and all of those other engineering challenges in mind.  The pole is actually a heavy duty steel pole that we painted with Rustoleum and then suspended from heavy duty shelving units.  The poles are 10' each in span.  The hangers I got from my dry cleaner.  They are the heavier ones that have cardboard tubes on them that dry cleaners use for tablecloths.  I did not worry about rust because of the tubes and because our warehouse is an old paper factory and is very dry.  I would be concerned if the storage area had moisture.  I learned earlier in one of my first storage spaces when I grabbed a pillow that smelled musty to consider moisture first when looking at spaces.  I was terrified of destroying furniture and/or other materials!

I hope this helps...Jo

Terrylynn,

It does make things so much easier when sourcing for a jo.  The challenge is the discipline to put it back after a pick up.  I am not always neat by nature so the warehouse continues to both inspire and challenge me!

WOW!  How much do I want to be you when I grow up?  We just got our warehouse in November.  We've been trying to figure out ideas on how to go vertical with sofas, etc... thanks for the idea!  Hopefully our furniture will always be out there working, but when it isn't it is good to know some other ways of handling it!

Jo, thanks for the additional info.  How nice that you have an engineer to help with those weight issues.  The steel pole is very logical.  Wooden closet poles really don't carry that much weight.  I will talk with my husband about doing that.  And you are so right about dampness, something to seriously stay away from.  I will check with the local dry cleaners about using the same hangers.  I never would have thought they would hold the weight of bedding.

Have a great 2008!

What a great warehouse!

I don't know if I ever really want to grow up to be a stager with a ton of inventory but if I do...I want it to be as neat and tidy as yours!

Thanks for your comments.  I think one of the best things you can do after  obtaining a new space is to lay it out the way you would look at a vacant staging.  (Draw out the space and "play" with your options.)  Keep in mind the distances to your car or truck so that heavier items have less carrying distance and also keep in mind the work flow when you are sourcing for a job.  It is nice to have bedding and pillows near each other while florals and decorative items are a logical pairing as well.  Pictures can hang on chain link or you can lean them against walls if it is TOTALLY dry and you are careful not to damage the frames.

Jo,  How are you hanging the art on the chain-link fence? How large is your space?  What tips can you give me as a new warehouse leaser???  Thanks

Diane,

We hang the pictures with coat hanger strength wire that has been bent into an  "S" hook.  One end of the hook goes on the picture wire and the other on the chain link.  It is more difficult to hang the pictures with brackets so we just focus on the wired photos and lean the others against the wall.

This is one of the few stagers' warehouses I've seen where it looks like you could cozy up on one of those sofas and take a nap ~ Clean and neat as a pin! Great organization skills here!

Jo WOWEE!!!  This looks great! My partner and I are thinking about combining our warehouses and getting one big space. Yours is so neat compared to ours ;)  I, too am thinking about the chain link fence for pics. great idea.

One thing that helped me with putting the pillows on any sort of racking is to cut a big piece of linoleum and line the shelve for the pillows or anything else for that matter.  It won't snag. The pillows and light tubs will slide easily.  You could use it for the furniture too.

Wow!  The linoleum is a great idea Lori Kim.  I hate fitting those pillows in when they snag on the shelf boards.  What did you use to cut the linoleum?  It seems pretty heavy duty.

JO!!!!  I just found these FABULOUS warehouse pictures and concepts by way of Michelle Minch's post about her "Warehouse of the Year."  I'm finally getting a real warehouse, and organizing isn't my strong suit either.  Your sharing like this will make it possible for me to avoid so many pitfalls.  Thank you a ton and a bunch!  Thanks also to Lori Kim Polk for the smart linoleum idea.

Pat,

I am glad this was helpful.  I have found that if you set the warehouse up to be flexible for the in's and out's of the inventory it is easier to stay organized.  We have general locations designated for furniture types (bedrooms, dining, sofa's, etc) but we have to be flexible with the spaces.  Artwork is always a challenge but we fing that after the hanging space is full you can gently lean them against the wall and we can then avoid most casualties!

Good Luck!

Jo
