FREE SEO Opportunity That Most Real Estate Pros Are Overlooking

SEO Link BuildingWe SEO geeks have a saying:  "Content is King, Linking is Queen."

The gist of this is that before you focus on driving people to your website/blog and acquiring links to your page, you want to make sure people will like what they see once they're on your page.  Mainly, you want your content to be engaging, thoughtful and (most importantly) readable.  Complete sentences and correct grammar still count once we're all in adulthood...especially in this Internet age.

Which brings us to the "linking" portion of our show referenced in the headline of this article.  I was doing some research for one of my clients here in Pennsylvania earlier this week and literally stumbled across a wonderful SEO linking opportunity that won't cost you anything but about 5 or 10 minutes' time once a month.

I have written for Realty Times for several years and have always liked their platform and format.  I believe it's an excellent resource for information.   There is a Market Conditions page, where you can literally go, choose your state and specific area and give a brief professional opinion of your current real estate market climate.

There is one major problem, however:

Many areas have not been updated or reported on in over a year!  And most areas don't have consistent monthly reporting!

That means no Realtors are reporting on these areas consistently, which is a HUGE mistake.  Not only is this nice exposure on a high profile real estate news site, you will get a quality link to your website each time you leave your assessment and rating of your local real estate market!

This is a great linking opportunity!

There is a great need for education amongst consumers.  Home owners, sellers and buyers need good reliable information delivered consistently by someone in their own back yard.  I recommend that you go to the Realty Times market assessment form and fill it out once a month for your area.  This will build consistency in a visible forum and help establish you as a dependable local resource for visitors.

Each published assessment will have a link to your website from the Realty Times market conditions page for your area.

SEO is so very important to getting found online and there is no one magic pill.  There are, however, a lot of good simple opportunities that get overlooked and this is one of them.  Just please...if you do this, put thought into what you write and make it easily readable:)

Leave your local market conditions assessment on Realty Times’ market conditions page here.

Great concept and I was all on board recommending to clients to submit market reports for their specific areas.

Unfortunately, reporting through "free" submission does not provide a link to your website.  While the "free" submission form requests the URL of your website as part of the submission process, it does not link to that website.

In addition "Narrative" section does not permit HTML, negating my thought of writing a full blown market report as a blog post, submitting a summary report to Realty Times and linking to the blog post.

Apparently the only way to have your website linked is through a paid subscription to Market Conditions Reporting at $599.95 annually.

Here are recent submissions under the two scenarios:

Free Market Report - http://realtytimes.com/rtmcrcond/California~San_Francisco~EARA-8KVKF4

Paid Market Report - http://realtytimes.com/rtmcrcond/California~San_Francisco~andrewlamont

My opinion, that's a lot to pay for the ability to report monthly market conditions.  Would be interested to hear your thoughts as to the ROI.

Great opportunity for synergy.  If we are posting market reports to Active Rain, why not get a little more traction from Realty Times?  Thanks for the tip.

Kim,

Thank you for your input and I'm waiting for more feedback from agents.  I'm concerned that this offering from Realty Times may be a sneaky monetizing MO, which would be disappointing.  It wasn't always that way, as I first found out about it a few years back from agents who were thrilled with the links.  But perhaps they've made it a paid service now.

Much the way ActiveRain did with their services.  A lot of us AR old-timers never had to pay for "Rainmaker" status, but now it's a monetizing effort that's driving a lot of experts away.   From a sales standpoint, giving all of us "Rainmaker" status would provide a sales tool for getting others to pay for it, i.e. showing potential new clients how many people are Rainmakers on AR.  I don't know that it happened this way, but it sure does look like it.

I'd hate to think the Realty Times thing is about monetizing now.  I hope it's not.  If it is, I agree with you...not worth it to pay for those links.  There are too many other legitimate venues out there that require only effort.

And I certainly plan to share them:)

Thanks again for your insight!

Cheers,

Mark

I agree with Kim.  I went and submitted two market reports until it appeared that I was not getting a link unless I paid.  I'll continue posting them on my multiple blogs - they got two freebies from me but no more!  The truth is, you really have to question that if I didn't know about this feature, how many buyers/sellers ever show up on those pages?  No link, no more effort from me.

Judy, thank you for your input.  I'm incredibly disappointed that it's come down to what amounts to a bad monetizing decision on their part.  Didn't used to be that way, but it seems to have devolved into that:(

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Even if you pay for the link it is still a dynamic redirected link. Last time I checked, the search engines could not get past the '?' in a url. These dynamic links all have a '?' in them.

Have the search engines developed the ability to read past the '?' and make it to the link? If not then these links do not exist in the eyes of search engines.
