Unused Drugs Disposal Sites in Ventura County, California
Recently the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Take Back Initiative held a free event to promote the practice of eliminating of unused drugs at disposal sites.
In case you missed it, I am presenting these locations again because it is an important issue as well as an environmental concern.
Because drug abuse is increasing, because our aging population is getting more dependant on prescription drugs and because there are accidental poisonings and overdoses from misused medication, proper disposal has become an ever increasing problem. Young people who abuse drugs often get them from home medicine cabinets.
There has also been recent concern over prescription drugs being taken from homes on “Open House.” So please secure them when you have one scheduled.
Last April, in a similar event, Ventura Police collected 418 pounds of drugs and nationwide, a record 309 tons were turned in to authorities.
Do not flush unused or out of date prescription drugs unless the instructions recommend this. Check your local area trash and recycle centers for the proper means of purging them.
In Ventura County, please call first to verify hours. Here are your locations (pills only, no liquids or syringes):
