Are you working for peanuts too?

A few years ago, I was prospecting with some Realtors and noticed an empty bag of peanuts hanging from an agent’s door.  Above it was a sign that said "I work for peanuts!"  While I was looking at it, another agent said that I needed to get that agent to tell me her story.

So I asked her and she said that she had been working with a couple showing them houses for months!  Then they cooled off and she didn't have contact with them for a few weeks.  So one day a new house came on the market that this agent knew was the perfect house for them so she called them all excited about seeing it.

They listened to her describe the house and then they calmly said that they had already bought a house!!!  She said, "Well Thanks A Lot!" and slammed the phone down.

Knowing this agent for years, I know that this was not something she would do.  She was a very reserve and nurturing person.

Here comes the funny part.  (Not to the agent!!) A few days later, the buyers sent her some gourmet peanuts because they knew that they had upset her.

My question to her was did you have an “exclusive right to represent” signed?  She said no but that she would take the time to get one signed with her next buyer.  This might not always work but they will help your buyers from calling other agents most of the time.
