Today is November 5th. Today is Guy Fawkes Day in England. A strange holiday that remembers the attempt in the 17th century to blow up parliament.

Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.

Should ever be forgot...

As a child this was an exciting day that we always looked forward to. There were huge bonfires where a "Guy" was placed on top to represent the traitor, tasty outside cold weather treats such as fire roasted Jacket Potatoes, sticky parkin, mushy peas and pork pies washed down with hot chocolate. All of the fun is followed up by a fireworks display.

Because England is not known for it's mild winter weather, I always recall it either being incredibly cold or wet. It never dampened our spirits.
