Experience Cultural Delights in an Elegant Setting with Music at the Mansion Series
Posted 11/10/11

Gracing the landscape since 1900, Gaithersburg’s Kentlands Mansion provides an intimate setting for an evening of musical delights.  With the new Music at the Mansion series, patrons can enjoy a variety of musical styles in the elegant surroundings of this stately home.

On Saturday, November 26, the Mansion hosts Around the World with Silver Roots.  Shawn Wyckoff (flute) and Maria Millar (violin) perform a rich blend of classical and world music with luxurious tone, technical mastery and superb musicianship.  The flute and violin are two of the most beloved instruments, and their likeness can be found in virtually every culture’s music.  Julliard-trained musicians Wyckoff and Millar perform a program almost entirely of original compositions and arrangements created specifically for this dynamic ensemble. Silver Roots will take you on a journey across borders, worlds and time with music from Germany, Ireland, Japan, the Czech Republic, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Argentina, Uruguay and the United States.

On Saturday, December 17, Music at the Mansion features Psallite! Joyous Early Music for the Season.  Chamber choirs Carmina and Illuminare bring us jubilant songs of the season from the Middle Ages through the Baroque. Carmina, known for its gorgeous tonal balance, is devoted to exploring the diverse musical styles of early music.  Illuminare, Carmina’s women’s ensemble, was founded to illuminate exceptional vocal music of past centuries and focuses on early vocal repertoire composed or arranged for women’s voices.

Kentlands Mansion is located at 320 Kent Square Road in Gaithersburg.  Admission to each Music at the Mansion performance is $23 for City of Gaithersburg residents and $25 for nonresidents.  Performances begin at 8 p.m.  Tickets may be purchased by phone at 301-258-6394, online at www.gaithersburgmd.gov/kentlandsmansion, or at the adjacent Arts Barn Ticket Office, 311 Kent Square Road.  Seating is limited.  Advance purchase is recommended.

Thanks so much for your comments.

Today, November 10, 2011, we celebrate the 236th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.  During this season of Thanksgiving, we are thankful for every individual that serves our country.

Good Friday morning to all.  I appreciate your comments. Those of us that live in Maryland are certainly fortunate to have so many community activities.

Enjoy the season of Thanksgiving and be sure to have your camera in hand to capture the special moments.
