I just started mountain biking (me below) with my son Joshua and my brother Mike (pictures below). We pick pristine spots out in the wilderness near lakes, forests, streams, wildlife with beautiful views and scenery plus nature thrown in...I ask you, what is not to love here. All forms of biking is personal and you compete against your self when riding...fun fun fun

You cannot tell by looking, but we are riding in a storm. It is raining soft to medium hard and steady too, not windy but potential for cold is there if you stop moving. When we finished this run, we were covered in mud, sores, scratches and wetness. But we were men that day, exploring, adventuring and having fun

(above) Me and Mike wet but happy. It is a hard ship to pull out our phones and take pictures because 1. our hands and or fingers are cold and dirty and 2. the phones get wet and 3. so does everything else. We break half way through and all snack to keep energy up. I made home made energy bars and I had an apple. When you eat an apple when hungry, it tastes like heavenly food.

Here is my son Joshua who puts us to shame jumping and bunny hopping all over the place. He is a Real Estate attorney and for the single girl readers of the post...available. Well rounded decent young man and a good son. Together, the three of us hit the trails and have a ball. We all kissed the dirt (fell) BTW...

I took this in the rain, wet and cold. I thought of my ActiveRain, twitter and other friends and did the sacrifice. We circled a lake and went through forests, small water crossings and swamp areas. The paths eventually got down to single file with brush, mud, and rock. It is quiet, pristine and inviting...a natural rush

THE REWARD FOR ALL THE HARD WORK

At the end of each ride...we go and eat and I want to emphasize the word EAT here. We just rode over 12 miles on trails, mud, mountains, bridges ,forest, rain, and cold. We have earned the right to eat what we want and as much of it as we want. For this particular ride, we all agreed on the following

THE CHOSEN PLACE

A premium well known Italian place. We ordered a LARGE meatball sandwich, sausage sandwich and a torpedo sandwich. Theses were cut in three parts allowing us to each sample one of the sandwiches. The food was hot, lots of it and we were very content. Some hot soup and tea helped me and Josh to stop shivering a little

There's nothing like mountain biking...being in nature and meeting the challenges the trail has to bring. You guys look like pros, and you know you've done something when you finish the ride dirty and bleeding.

Thanks for the inspiring post! I always enjoy reading about someone who is enjoying getting some good exercise, and with good friends to boot. Got to add something similar to my calendar, now!

I started training for a charity ride. This was two years ago, and I was breaking in a new bike with cletted pedals. Full suspension...front and back. ( I don't like back suspension,  you can't get enough air off a good jump. ) I went into work the next day in an arm sling and with road rash on one whole side of my leg. My foot stuck in the pedal and I had to dump the bike, with me on it, to avoid the row of mailboxes. This was on a gravel road. I didn't even get to the challenging trail part of that ride. This happened about half a mile from my house. ( I'm laughing now, but then I was almost crying, and yelling words my parents told me to never say. It took me about 15 minutes to get my shoulder back into place, and then I went home. ) My fellow agents thought I was nuts, and asked if I would get on a bike again. "Of course", I said.

Debbie....A real trooper, an Amazon princess and warrior. Dare I say it, one of my heroes she-roes...Suspension is a controversial item amongst bikers. It absorbs the ride which helps the buttocks and joints, but allows for a slight disconnect from the body controls. After all, the bike should be an extension of your body after a while. On clets, I rode with them for years. For road biking, its good to go. For off-road, I question it. One thing, being able to use the pulling up muscle that clets provide for is pretty decent. I fell so many times until I mastered the " clet disconnect". Debbie, you would make a fine biking partner...watch that @%!$# however!

Ginny..the viking biking queen? Who would have known? Gin, you start pedaling and the Real Estate blues leave along with everything else and it is like the world turned into one giant turning ball for us to explore...Good stuff Gin

What a great thing to do to clear the mind and get that blood flowing--great exercise!  I used to do a little cycling but, have not done it in a very long time.  I miss communing with nature and enjoying the sights and smells of the forest and trails--I don't miss the scrapes and bruises though!!  LOL
