How About Turning your Clocks Back Twenty-Five hours Instead of Just One ?

By
Real Estate Agent with New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County

Most folks I know turned their clocks back One Hour last night.  That's because the end of Daylight Savings time is here.  So now, it gets darker one hour earlier today than it did yesterday.

That, of course, gave ALL of us one extra hour yesterday (Saturday) to finish all the things on our "To Do" list.

The younger you are, the less trouble or confusion messing with that "one extra hour" will cause you.  But some of us older kids... well... just that one hour can mess with what the sleep doctors call our "circadian rhythms."  For some of us, it will take weeks to adjust.

Also, it not only affects humans, but plants and animals, as well.  I have even read stories by dairy farmers... that even their milk-producing cows can have a difficult time adjusting.

I don't know about you, but just that extra one hour we got yesterday really doesn't help me catch up with all the "stuff" on my "to do" list... so I am proposing a new idea.

What if... instead of doing the "same old, same old" routine of turning our clocks back only ONE hour to get that extra hour of sleep, or work-time... what IF... we turned our clocks back TWENTY-FIVE hours ?

Instead of getting an extra hour, we would get an entire extra DAY.  We could use it for work... or... we could use it for sleep.  I am tired... I could use the sleep.  So... for almost all of you... today is Sunday.  For me... I get the full extra 25 hours... so for me, it is still Saturday.

I have been reaching into the far corners of my brain... dusting out the cobwebs... and thinking about this.

So... whaddya say ?  Could it work ?

Just wondering...

I say lets leave well enough alone! Let's just stay on day light standard time and just deal with it! All this back and forth is a bunch of whoo-ha!

Why don't we take it one step further? What if we make it Groundhog Day and keep replaying it until we get it right. I think that might work for me.

Jill:  Groundhog Day is one of my favorite movies.  I especially love it when Bill Murray starts seriously "courting" Andi McDowell... all the cute things he does... and then really like the scene where he is playing the piano.  And, from then on... the ice sculpture, the "lovey" stuff, and the storybook ending.  I have seen it perhaps eight or nine times.

I could go for a Do-Over on alot of days! I'd give anything to go back to when I was 29 (1986?) As long as we are opting to turn back time, could ya all vote for a whole lot more than just 25 hours? Let's go for 25 years! And a promise to mom and dad...I will listen to what you say, AND take your advice! :-)

Karen Anne -- An extra day?  My first inclination would be to sleep.   I have been all messed up this year after the time change. Guess I am getting too old to adapt as quickly as I used to!

Barbara... I think that sleeping would be the first thing I would do.  In fact, I just might use the entire day to sleep.  That sounds like such a great idea !

Hi Karen Anne - You're right about having more trouble adjusting when we're no longer youngsters, but the ones who have the most difficulty in our house are the cats.  They get used to a certain schedule and cats are sticklers for routine.  When the clocks change one direction or the other, it takes them a few weeks to stop waking me up an hour early or wanting to eat or go outside too close to bedtime (we bring our cats inside at night).

Karen --

I'd prefer that we don't even do this daylight savings time thing. It isn't done all over the world. When I first moved the the US, I truly didn't and still don't see the benefit.

Karen Anne - it is a fun idea and the sheer number of comments tells you that you stepped on so many toes (lol)... I personally do not think it would help me even with 25 hours, but it sure would be nice

Hi Karen Anne ~ I'm late to the party on this post, but I can tell you, I'd LOVE an extra day to catch up with -- life!  One hour hardly counts.  I wish we had more daylight hours all year round, though.  This time of year when it's only 6:45pm, it feels like it's 9pm and -- it's too early to go to sleep LOL!

Karen Anne, it would be nice to have an extra day+1hour. BTW Russia didn't switch to the 'winter' time. They will no longer do it. Maybe it is a great idea, but if remember it correctly the whole deal with day light savings started in Spring time so whoever made that decision in Russia should've at list wait till Spring.
