Heading to NAR Convention in Anaheim on Tuesday - Keeping Things Simple
After you've attended a few NAR events, like the Midyear Legislative meetings in Washington, D.C. or the NAR Annual Convention, you learn to plan better and keep things simple.
I'm not a fan of extended business trips, but these NAR events are different. Being on the road for a week or so at a time requires bringing on a lot of stuff..laptop or tablet device, suits & ties, dress shirts and so on. It means a week of dining out, running from one meeting to the next and tightly scheduled days. I attend an array of CRS meetings, a meeting of the NAR Diversity Committee and an Equal Opportunity Forum meeting. Packed tightly among the meeting schedule are breakfast meetings, luncheons, receptions and awards ceremonies. It's not uncommon to finish the day around 11 pm, only to realize that the whole process will start again in eight hours.
The meetings themselves are pretty intense. A huge amount of information is compressed into an all-too-short time frame. And each day, you end the day with a list of things to do that grows longer and longer.
So after having experienced a few of these NAR events, I've learned to fly by the seat of my pants. I look forward to connecting with friends and making new ones. Convention week takes a bite out of my schedule, but I'd miss it. So I attend without expectations and I soak up as much as I can fit into the time I have.
