Christmas Tree Lighting time is almost here

I grew up in Northern California in a town whose symbol was the big, old Oak tree.  One of my favorite memories was the annual Tree Lighting, which happened shortly after Thanksgiving.  The streetlights would go off just before hand, and we all waited in anticipation for the moment that thousands of white twinkle lights would come on on the town tree.  Everyone would cheer.  Hot cider was served, and then Santa Claus woudl arrive to greet the children.  This really felt like the moment that the Season began (this was in the years when you didn't see Christmas decorations in the stores in September).

Now that I live and work in Lakewood and Steilacoom Washington, I am excited to begin the tradition with my children of taking them to the town tree lightings.  This year, we have a choice to make, because they are on the same day, and we live right in between the two.

So, for those who are looking for a fun Holiday celebration in this area, December 2 is the day!  Lakewood and Steilacoom are both having tree lighting events on that date.

For Lakewood, the tree lighting will happen outside City Hall between 4pm and 7pm.  Here is the info:
