Recently Greensgrow held their 4th annual Subaru sponsored Fall Festival to celebrate fresh, local food, crafts and farm fun! The event was a great success with tons are neighbors, friends, and people from all over the city in attendance.  Greensgrow was filled with Fall produce and harvest as well as greatly decorated for the season.  My family and I enjoyed the pies fresh food, while other families enjoyed the resident chickens and pig!

As someone who has watched them grow since their inception in 1997 it has been amazing to witness what they have evolved into.  Mary Corboy the co-founder has taken her initial concept of sustainable organic hydroponic farming and turned it into this incredible organization with even more ties to the local communities they serve.   Her secret to success has been her willingness to change and evolve.  From my perspective as an interested neighbor, it has been wonderful to see the positive impact which her organization has had both on the local and wider community throughout the City.  Long before Farmers Markets were available to the rest of the City, Mary fulfilled our weekly need for fresh produce and organic food.  She took her vision and turned it into an amazing reality.

The growth of Greensgrow has paralleled the Fishtown community.  Both have seen tremendous changes since 1997 and both are continuing to evolve.  Large homes within the Fishtown boundaries that sold in the low $100,000′s are now worth over $300,000.  Where there was once empty sidewalks along Girard, people are flocking to Frankford and Girard for their food and entertainment.

For example, there is a meticulously restored and renovated 3 bedroom townhome blocks from Greensgrow on the market now for $329,000. It is beautiful if you would like to see it, just give me a call.

The quality of life has continued to evolve in a very positive manner.  Last Saturday I participated in a one day cleanup with a lot of volunteers who typify the individuals who have moved and are moving into the neighborhood. Everything in the neighborhood is interconnected, the residents who have lived there for generations and all the new residents who are making this their new homes all have a lot to look forward too.
