"Food for Fines" Is Underway at the Southington Public Library

The Southington Public Library is once again sponsoring it's annual "Food for Fines" program.

The library will accecpt canned goods and other non-perishable food items in exchange for overdue fines.  This is a great way to help Southington Community Services help others this holiday season. The program will go until the end of December 2011.

Bring in your library card, your overdue books and a food item (or items) to the lending desk and your fines will be forgiven!

Please consider adding to the Southington Public Library "Mitten Tree".  It will be ready to be decorated with new mittens, hats, gloves, scarves and socks. Handmade items are also appreciated.

Got time to volunteer?  Please contact Southington Community Services (SCS) at 860-628-3761. SCS is located at 91 Norton Street, Plantsville, CT.

(Sorry, lost or damaged materials, fees for losses that are in billing or collection stages, and lost card fees are not included in the food drive.)

Hi Karen--this is a brilliant idea.  I think I will suggest the same to our local libraries.  I have never seen/heard this done in any of the cities I have lived in, so thanks for sharing this.

Thanks to all of you for stopping by!  I too think this is such a wonderful idea - I hope more libraries consider doing the same.
