You've probably heard all the news about November 11th, 2011 and the even more rare 11:11:11AM (and of course PM).  People keep talking about it as if it's the coming on the next Age of Aquarius or something - it's special.  Well, yes it is, sort of.  It is special, just not in the ways you think.

11/11/11 happens every 100 years.  So, it's possible you could, if you have good genes, exercise, and eat well, see the event twice in your lifetime.  Otherwise, it's right up there with Haley's Comet and other rare happenings that we all get to see only once.  This is about as special as it gets.  It's just another date - but it looks cool in print or if you say it fast.

If you want a really rare calendar event, last month, October, we had 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays, and 5 Sundays.  That only happens every 823 years!  I'm more impressed with that than I am with with 11/11/11.

What today IS NOT:  There are no connections with religious events or anything having to do with the apocolypse.  From a religious standpoint, it's just another day on the calendar.  It's also not really tied to the Mayan Calendar.

There is no:

  • Historical significance - nothing special happened in history on this date 100 years ago, etc
  • Astrological significance - it's not an equinox or anything else
  • Numerological - 11 does have some interesting mathemetical properties but that's about it

So, today is just another day.  For those so inclined it also happens to be Veteran's Day and if you feel patriotic, it might be nice to recognize those who served in combat to defend our country.

Definitely PATRIOTIC!  Happy veteran's day to all - especially the many members of my family, the bunches of my kids friends and to Mr. Bill in North Dakota at the Air Force Base... and the list goes on.

As for 11-11-11, it's my nephew's 18th birthday!  If you're superstitious, he should be really lucky!  Happy Birthday, Joseph!

Guess the odd dates in our lifetime will end next year with 12/12/12!  It is pretty cool if that is your birthday and you get to experience 7/7/7/  10/10/10 etc.  but you are out of luck if you go over 12!!
