The Christmas holiday is upon us here in Maricopa. I know there are probably a few people that think it is a little early for the Christmas holiday to be here in Maricopa but ready or not it is here. We are seeing commercials on television that are reminding us that the countdown to Christmas is here. When I went into the Wal-Mart store here in Maricopa the other day they were playing Christmas music over the store's speakers. I even noticed that they were working on putting up the Christmas lights in Rancho El Dorado here where I live in Maricopa. There is little doubt that the Christmas holiday is here in Maricopa.
Maricopa always puts on an event at Christmas time called the Holiday Lights on Parade where homes compete on which home is the best decorated. There is always some stiff competition for Maricopa’s Holiday Lights on Parade and I am sure that this year will not be any different. In Maricopa’s Holiday Lights on Parade citizens are allowed to vote for their favorite decorated home. It is always interesting to see just how much work people are putting into this competition and how creative the ideas are going into this competition. For more information about Maricopa’s Holiday Lights on Parade go to the cities website, Maricopa-az.gov, in December.
Another fun thing to see in Maricopa during the Christmas holiday is a living nativity scene. The scene is located in Pacana Park and is reenacted by members of a local church. Church members dress up like they did on the first Christmas and try to reenact the original Christmas scene. It is always interesting to see just how that the scene is going to be put together.
There are always a great deal of activities taking place in the city of Maricopa but the Christmas holiday is always a special time here in Maricopa as it is in many places. Maricopa has grown a great deal over the years but it is still a small community and there is no other time quite like Christmas to bring a small community together. Below is a video that I found on YouTube that depicts the Christmas holiday in Maricopa. I think you will enjoy watching it.
