Are you ready for winter?  Know how to put on tire chains?  Understand proper generator use?  Know how to use a fire extinguisher?  These seem like easy things to do, but every year there are a number of deaths reported because people used a generator without proper ventilation.

The city of Woodinville invites everyone to attend a Winter Safety Fair and Pancake Breakfast, Saturday, November 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Woodinville Fire Station 31 located at 17718 Woodinville-Snohomish Rd. NE.  Other stations in the area will also be hosting this event to help us all be better prepared for the winter.

Station 31 is the Headquarters for WFLSD, and is the Primary Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for the Fire District and the City of Woodinville.

Hey Sandy - Good to see you.  It's funny for me to think about a winter preparedness event, since my children have only seen snow once.

DO you have any kind of agenda or synopsis of what will be covered?

In Minnesota and Wisconsin, we prepare for winter like a general plans a military campaign!

And if it's a mild winter, that'll be a very pleasant surprise.

Sandy, I've heard of several fires that were started by a homeowner putting gasoline into a heater instead of kerosene.  A safety fair and pancake breakfast sounds like a great idea.

Hey Jason!  Thanks, I was in some kind of funk since my friends dad passed away and all the other s*@t (that's the extent of my cussing!) that's been going on, then woke up yesterday and it seemed to have passed and now I'm back.  My friend and fellow agent said she was going through the same thing last week.  Maybe it was some kind of bug!!  Well.....you should probably take your kids somewhere it's snowy this winter!!  How are things for you?

Williamthe only information provided was what I included in the post.  I think it's mostly to protect people from using heaters/generators in the wrong ways and help people learn to put on tire chains so they are prepared should we get snow.  The tough part about this area is that we usually get rain then it starts snowing and the rain on the roads turns to a sheet of ice.  We have a lot of hills out here so driving can be treacherous.  Thanks for asking.

Eric I think I've visited your neck of the woods when I was a kid.  I was born in ND and my dad was from Minnesota so I know how bad your winters get.  We don't usually get that much snow fall, but it only takes a little to shut this area down.  Thanks for commenting.

Brian I hadn't heard of that, but that's awful.  We hear a lot of stories of families using generators to heat their homes and not properly ventilating them.  They then die of carbon monoxide poisoning.  Very sad!  I have to agree pancakes and safety is a nice idea.  My good friend is a lieutenant at Station 31 and his top priority is public safety.  Thanks for reading.
