18 Comments on Paying It Forward: Helping Thanksgiving Be More Thankful
Liz & Bill - I was happy to see your Pay It Forward post this morning as we are not seeing as many of those since the AR policy changed. Yours was the first Pay It Forward that I read when I first started in ActiveRain and I remember it well. I also like the fact that you guys do so much locally. Thanksgiving starts at home and flows through our communities.
I'll be doing my food bank shopping tomorrow and then before I leave town this year I'll be dropping off the basket for the family I adopt through my chuch. I'm thankful I can afford to lend a helping hand.
Good morning BLIZ,
Thanksgiving is one of the times everyone can make a difference for their community. What a positive impact you are providing for your community....Kudos to you!!
Good morning Liz and Bill,
Lovely post, and a wonderful reminder of helping one another. Thank you for sharing, have a lovely Sunday!
BLiz, i love United Way in our area...100% of all donations go to needy people! That is too the generosity of Royal Little many years ago, a tycoon, who set up a trust so that the administrative costs would be shouldered by his generosity...I'm meeting with the head of our local Food Bank to bring the needs forward again...She tirelessly works for the needy in the surrounding areas...such great causes!
I love everything about this post! Everything!
Good morning, BLiz. We typically give to charities that go directly to the inner city children. Talk about the poorest of the poor...
Barbara, We're glad they started up the group, and even without the "extra", we intend to continue with them. We'd love for more people to take that step out and do something, and also know at the same time that REALTORS(R) are doing their part to support their communities.
Cindy, Thanks for adopting that family! Our church does similar programs, it's nice to see that local involvement :) We're blessed that the day job for me and the real estate business give us the opportunity to share.
Dorie, For us, it's only fair to share the blessings we have.
Lisa, It's nice and windy here today....blew the leaves right off the roof! Win for the Wind :)
Ginny, United Way is something we provide a healthy amount to. So many organizations that the donations are key to surviving. Glad to hear someone in your area shouldered the admin costs.
Roger, We try to make a positive impact :)
Hi BLiz - We too go about paying it forward without much to say but just doing. 'Do unto others', works well for all of us whether the giver or receiver.
Michael, Certainly a good cause. The inner city can be like an entirely different planet. Was talking with a retired teacher this week and the topic came up about how do you teach kids that are hungry? Program cuts to school meals for the needy are hitting those that need it the most.
Thanksgiving is a perfect time to help folks in need BLiz! That's going to be the topic of my Pay it forward today too :)! Can't wait to write it up! That is wonderful for you to help out giving money and food to those who really need it this time of year :)!
John, That's part of what we love about Tish's quote. It's not for recognition, but hopefully to prompt someone to do that extra thing or two or more every week. Open the door, help someone with their bags, whatever and however the help can be given.
Good Morning, Bliz. There is never a better time to give our time, our contributions, or our support for all those in need, than at Thanksgiving Time. Kudos to you for all you have done for those in your area this Thanksgiving.
Brenda, We can count on my company every year to step up their "A" game and help those that need it :)
Jerry, Even more important as the weather gets colder and the differences between the haves and have nots get more noticeable. I'm glad we're able to make some dent in the needs.
Bliz,
Giving back is always important and while we all think about it during this time of year we need to remember these folks need our help year round.
So many will be need a little extra help this holiday season and in the year ahead. Donating food to a local shelter is one of the best ways we can help.
BLiz: It's so easy to get involved in a local food shelter...I hope many heed your advice, step out of their comfort zone, and make this a memorable holiday season for a family in need.
Larry, No doubt. It's in front of everyone more this time of year, but the need is year round. Part of the reason United Way gets donations from us out of every paycheck.
Dawn, It meets the most basic need. There's a few food pantries in our area doing great work.
Anita, We hope so too!
