44 Comments on Federal pacific electrical panels and breakers, are they a fire waiting to happen?
Hello Joshua,
The wiring is not the issue. The cloth/fiber covered wiring is still safe. It's the breakers that post the real threat.Even the box is good and will remain so. After all it's just a metal box with no moving parts.
Unlike the breakers that should move when there's a problem. Often they do not and thus the problems.
Thanks for the comment.

Hello June,
First I want to thank you for helping others in the Rain. Second, I want to thank you for the re post.
This is information that can be used for a lot of people in the Real Estate business. Not only "buyers beware". But sellers beware as well as agents and brokers and the list goes on.
We don't even wnt the chance of a fire when we could have prevented it.
Thank you for the comment and again, thank you for the re post.
All my best, Clint McKie
Hi Krista,
This information is not part of Real Estate school. There should be a little more training on what to look for when is comes to listing a home.
If a inspector finds stuff like this, it could be a deal breaker if the seller will not have the repairs made.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I hope this will help you for future reference.

Clint -- Thank you for the information and the links with further descriptions. Have a great week!
Clint, I sold a condo in a building that a Federal Pacific box in every unit. It made me a lot more nervous that it made the buyer, and the condo board seemed to be completely unconcerned. I would replace one in my own house.
God Evening Clint. Great post. Buyers and sellers need to be aware of these things
I want to thank everyone who commented on this post.

See you when I can get the browser issue resolved.
Thank you everyone.

Thanks to June for sending me over here via her reblog. I have run into quite a few Federal Pacific Boxes. When listing, I let the seller know the concerns. If working with a buyer, I always ask for certification from a licensed electrician and/or replacement. Note: have never had an electrician certify one.

Hello Margaret,
This post was re-posted five times. It's some simple but powerful information about the Federal pacific breakers in the home. No one can be too careful when it comes to home safety.
Thanks for the comment. Stop back anytime to see "what's next".
Have a great day in Rome.

Clint, Good info to keep in my background. We just had a problem house with ALUMINUM wiring. Every time the tenant got next to the stove, they got a mild jolt. Installed a new line and added a GROUND WIRE to the house, which had apparently melted! All has tested ok.
Hi Bruce,
Really? A home with aluminum wiring is not a good thing. It's been a long time since I had seen one of these homes with it.
There needs to be the "tightening of lugs on the breakers" to help keep the wiring safe at least as much as possible.
Thanks for the comment.

Can someone provide me with the proper verbiage for the inspection objection, the house my client placed an offer on has a federal pacific panel.
Hi Misty,
The Federal Pacific panels had been recalled by the Federal Govt. These panels have a potential fire hazard.
You must be sure if this is a Federal Pacific panel and not a Federal noark panel. These have not been recalled.
If this is a true Federal Pacific panel then have an electrician inspect the panel and deem it safe in writting. Many will not. If this licensed electrician will not. Then it's up to the seller to upgrade the electrical system to meet current codes. Or for the buyer to buy the home knowing full well of the electrical issues of the home.
I hope this explains the Federal pacific panel question.
