Want to add some pizazz to your marketing, have fun and tap into your creative side? Consider fewer slide-shows and more cowbell. Video is a great way to spice up your marketing efforts, whether it's a website, blog post or email.
Slide-shows have their place, but Google loves video - more cowbell - and, research shows, so do many people. If you're hoping to make connections with like-minded customers, video is a great way to accomplish that goal.
Yes, we all know the importance of having a good video tour for our listings, but some forget the importance of selling ourselves and our communities. Showing a passion for your community, with an added dash of your own personality is powerful stuff.
Your unique style coupled with videos showcasing the interesting people, places and things to do in your market creates connections. Are you known for your funny hats, quirky ties, or cowboy boots? Tie some of that "personality" into your videos.
Perhaps you love vintage cars, tractors, or gardening - find a way to weave that into your video creations. Suddenly, you've gone from a one in a million, to memorable - especially to those people who love vintage cars, tractors or gardening.
The art of marketing you should encompass your unique qualities or interests. Our individuality is our strength. One of the best ways to get that message out to potential clients in through video. All together now, "Fewer slide-shows, more cowbell."
(For the uninitiated - Will Ferrell appears in a wonderful SNL skit called "More Cowbell," since you're busy, this is a 39 second excerpt.)

As an EcoBroker, I combine my love of nature, people and the planet with my job as a Realtor®, that way, I can help you live in a more beautiful, comfortable and healthier environment, and save you money. Let me be your guide.
In addition, my passion for the Northwest lifestyle and our area's many neighborhoods ensure you a great selling or buying experience.
I'm not sure I agree. I've seen some videos here on AR that are just awful. You phrase it nicely saying 'add your own touches & individuality' but what if those vocal touches make you wince? Not a good idea for your audience to tune out because it's done unprofessionally.
Jayson, thanks for the great testimonial regarding videos with a personal touch. I appreciate the story and it does underscore that it works...
Gene, you should do yourself a favor and watch the entire clip - it's a funny bit. Thanks for the visit.
Todd, Ya gotta have some video in it - action, but a few photos won't hurt. Slide shows might be better than nothing, especially with a good narration and music, but google still ranks "video" differently than slide-shows - and viewers also feel diferently about them. :)
Lyn - I agree a poorly produced video can hurt you. I suppose an irritating voice could as well, therefore, I guess it's good to "know thyself." We all need to properly assess our strengths and weaknesses - but videos done slickly with "no personality" are just as useless. They don't serve to make connections.
Even if someone can't do a voice over without being irritating, he or she can use text slides to add humor or fun, develop a signature aspect - say a "white Golden Retriever" which I use in many of my productions. I'm not saying if you have terrible on camera presense to force the issue. However,we need to be creative and think of ways of being entertaining and charming ( not hokey) and find ways to connect. A video tour produced for a house is different than community videos created to sell "you."
Debb this headline definitely caught my attention. I agree 100% that videos are an easier way to express your message and a more successful way with your audience. Videos add personality to your message or brand, and they give instant brand recognition.
I presented on how to get started using online video last month at FranCamp and I adressed the issues you highlighted above.
Debb~Hello, *SUGGESTED*!! What...no feature??? This is great stuff, girlfriend! I liked what you imparted to our friend, Kristine (and you just gave me some of the same advice recently!) Did Will lose weight later in life? He is sure carrying some extra COWBELL around the middle in this.
Hey Win Home Inspection - (FYI, can't find your name on your blog) ?
Thanks for the information about your seminar - I''m happy other folks are teaching the importance of these concepts in video. Thanks so much for the reblog. :)
Winston - Glad you enjoyed it... Are you using video in your marketing efforts?
Hi Gayle - No Feature for me. :) ( Said like the Seinfeld Soup Nazi)
Yep, same deal. It's pretty much whatever camera that "You will actually use and feel confident with from the get go." That's the one to buy.
Not sure if Will was a bit heavier then, or was wearing tight pants to make his belly look bigger. Regardless, he is a big goof. I may watch this again to get yet another laugh before I get into my serious day. :)
Bob -terrific. Glad to hear it will provide some value for you.
Hi Carolyn - no problem. I understand that the SNL stuff isn't everyone's cup of tea. No Big and as long as you go the point - who cares? Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. D
Great post and advice. So much to learn with video and I tend to gravitate more toward slideshows than actual video...seems easier to work with when editing I guess!
Naturally, slide shows are easier, but Google and Viewers don't treat them the same. It's an important part of our marketing efforts Patricia, and I hope you'll join our groups and learn with us. :)
Don't forget that video also distributes your listing information to more buyers and sellers who are actively looking for your type of product on Youtube, Daily Motion, etc. This is a key selling point in listing presentations.

Eric, glad you made that point - very true and valid, I guess I assume most of us know that. But with only 3% of agents using video, I'm likely wrong about that one..:)
"Exploring Clark County" is all about wonderful towns, homes, neighborhoods and lifestyles available in the beautiful Southwest Washington portion of the Pacific Northwest. Plus, you'll find some observations and occasional opinions with a hint of Green.

How do you feel about making video out of slide shows? I'm still not doing that well with the video thing, but have lots of pictures.

I feel stabbed to the heart with a slide show dagger :-(
You do videos too Steve! No sad face for you. :)
Hi Debb Janes, Great post and excellent idea. I will pass along to my team.
Not a big SNL fan, but it sounds like a lot of others are and understand your point.
