Sunday is chores day around my house.  This Sunday, I think I was the only one doing any, but that's neither here nor there.  In the course of doing what I hope will be the last mowing of the year, I had to do my least favorite job.  I had to scoop the poop.  I'm sure there is a pony in our yard somewhere, but I haven't seen him yet.

OK, that's one that Greg Nino missed in his post, "How to handle a post on Active Rain that offends you."  There are a lot of nasty things I don't mind doing, but that has got to be right at the top of my list of nasty things.  Blah!  Alright, enough with the poop.  What does this have to do with real estate?  Lots.  I bet you had a few thoughts of your own right then, didn't you?

There are always things we don't want to do in real estate.  If you're like me, you avoid them as much as humanly possible, but every once in a while one such circumstance catches up with you.  Like what?  Well, how about when you have to terminate an agent in your office?  Granted, they're not really employees, but in a weird sort of way the relationship is very much the same.  It's hard.

Or, how about when a sought after and favored REO company calls you to list that "next to condemned" property on the far end of town?  Do you decline the listing and risk the opportunity for future listings, or do you take the dog and make the best of it?

What about when you have to file a complaint against another agent in your community?  You have to work together from time to time.  Is their infraction worth the tension it will bring?  Maybe.  But, it's uncomfortable.  It labels you as a cry baby with all of their Realtor friends, their closing agents, their attorneys and lenders they work with.  It stinks, but sometimes a code of ethics violation is just severe enough that it has to be reported.  What if swifter action had been taken at Penn State?  A lot of young boys would have been spared a lot of psychological damage.

Sometimes, we have to do things we don't want to do.  It's tough.  It can be ugly, and some of those things can be fraught with consequences that are unknown at the time, but they demand attention and sometimes, action.

Now, let me get back to my pony search.  I'm sure I have one somewhere out back.  Feel free to navigate away now that you've read my blog.

Mike, Real estate is full of distasteful things.  A broker we met with once referred to it as "eating your frog".  Do the hard stuff first and the rest of the day is easier :)

Those can be difficult situations to navigate. There's a certain amount of fear involved. No one wants to be the whistle blower and be responsible for bringing down the house. All kinds of negative consequences may follow but sometimes, you just have to do what's right. At the end of the day, you need to be able to live with yourself. At a certain position, you have to be able to make the tough decisions.

I actually read a post over the weekend on AR this past weekend.  It was done in very bad taste actually vulgar would be the correct word.  Instead of responding I just left it alone.  I've stewed about it all weekend not following my gut and taking a stand by laying low watching as many others laughed it off.  Poop scooping needs to be done in many areas including AR sad to say.

How funny was that, Conrad?

It's a nasty job, John, but somebody's got to do it.  I do the same with the ones that are over the line.  I just move on.

THere are a ton of things in life that aren't fun.  I have found it easiest when I tackle the most distasteful ones at the beginning of my day so I can get them out of the way!

A lesson my broker taught me years ago was to attack the frog in the room first.  She still has a frog in her office to remind her.  The frog usually turns out to be a tadpole.

You got that right, Mike.... scooping the poop is not fun, but it does have to be done!  If we take it a little further... if you scoop the poop right after it happens, it is a lot less distasteful than having to fill up an entire bag with poop....  And I think that pony has been visiting my yard too! ;-)

Ah, Mike!  You just might find a Labradoodle back there.  Even really, really cute creatures create little messes.

I did finally find that monstor.  It's a big black Rottie named Hoss.  I'm obviously feeding him a good diet because it keeps him on a steady schedule.  Oy!
