Can’t Do It. Are You Sure?

Have you ever had a grand idea where you were totally pumped up and excited about something you wanted to do, to accomplish, and then for some reason you talk yourself out of it?  What’s up with that?  One minute you are putting together a plan where you are going to start a great business, or you’re going to lose a ton of weight, or you’re going to have your best year ever, or – I don’t know, but you’re going to do something and it’s going to be great!   You are all fired up but before you can even start the internal conversation in your head changes from being excited to listing all the reasons it won’t work.  And most of the time you end up with – forget it, I can’t do that.  And you don’t.

Well Not Today

Today is Monday – A fresh start to a brand new week.  And as Gary Keller says in his book, Millionaire Real Estate Agent, “Until you try, you can’t possibly know what you can or can’t do.”   So today is going to be a Can Do day.  Got it?  Say yes.  Today is the day where you plant the seeds of your dreams.

Here’s What You Do

Try It.  May be you can’t do something but maybe you can.  Let’s find out.  Go back to a plan that died recently or create a new one right now and then start.  For most great ideas this is the hardest part and that’s because we take our focus off the “Big Finish” and put it on all the hard work that is needed to get the result we want.  Absolutely normal.  I used to run marathons (26.2 mile races) and as part of the training 10, 12 & 15 mile practice runs were not uncommon.  And I remember for all the long runs the hardest miles were always the first two.  I would be stiff, sore, full of crappy thinking like, “man I have a long run today”.  But I ran through that phase and before long I would settle in, and the miles would start falling away, and before I knew it I was back home.  Hot, sweaty, tired and DONE.

Write them down. When those thoughts of self-doubt start to pop in your head simply write them down and keep going.  Then at the end of the week revisit them (if they are still there).  You will find that most of your doubts are what I call static, or interference, and they will simply disappear as your focus gets more and more defined.  If they are legitimate concerns simply address them come up with an answer, or a new plan, to achieve the same thing.  Remember there are many different ways to get something done if you really want to do it.

Don’t give up.  Great ideas and plans usually need a lot of time and involve a lot of trial and error so be prepared for that.  Hang a note somewhere around where you work that says,

“Because something doesn’t happen right away, or as I thought it would, doesn’t mean that it won’t if I keep at it.  SO KEEP AT IT!

Create a good plan, work it daily, make adjustments as necessary and do what you have to get it done – just don’t give up.

Here’s A Secret

Just because something is hard doesn’t mean it can’t be done.  It just means that it’s hard. Stick with it.

YOU CAN DO IT.  Start Now.  Go Be Great Today.
