Well, here I go again.  Why do I even watch Katie Couric?  I only get one local station on my tv, which is CBS, that why !   She did it again.  doom and gloom for the real estate industry, and no end in site.  So I decided that I needed to write her and tell her that maybe she needs to read some of the comments by all of us, ARs'

So, I went to the CBS website, to try and find some sort of response button to the individual stories.  Why am I not surprised that there were articles on all of the stories presented on her news presentation,EXCEPT, about the real estate doom and gloom, that she had reported on.  I am now thinking, that the reason is, that it was just a time filler, and for no other reason.  Do they even have a clue, or care, what the results are, just because they have some extra time to fill, and have nothing worthy to fill it with.  Enough !!

I could not find any kind of button to send a remark to CBS, but maybe some of you ARs' are more knowledgable than I , and  could point me in the right direction, otherwise the guess I must resort to snail mail and hope that in the enormouse pile they must receive each day, mine would get noticed enough to be opened and read.

Also, I would love to hear from all of you ARs' that have a comment or two to contribute to the letter, it would be my pleasure to include you, and it would help me get more meat into the letter.  Whether or not I think it would do any good?  I don't know, but I am willing to try.

Stephanie,

I love it.  We need to stand up to these crazy companies.  I am going to go on their site after this and look around,  they need to know that the market is great.  It's taking a little longer to sell house YES but it's not doom and gloom out there.  I think as a profession we need to get out there and talk it up about how good the market is and that it is getting better.  If we all keep moping around with our heads down this will be the demise of our profession.  So keep it up "THE MARKET IS GREAT"

Thanks

Hi Stephanie,

Go to their webpage at http://www.cbsnews.com/ and at the very bottom, you will notice in small print "contact us".     Click on that and it will lead you to an email message box.  You can select your email as a 'complaint' or "comment'...then tell them like it is....you go girl.  Hope this helps.

Katie also has a blog site on  http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/eveningnews/main3420.shtml.  It's called "Couric &Co" so you can blog on all her shows and leave the same message.  Do you think she might notice then?????  Give it a try. She might decide to interview you.....   Keep us posted.

Stephanie

I could not agree with you more.    It's time we speak up to the media and let them know they are doing little more than creating a self fullfilled prophecy.   Indeed, there are some isolated segments across the country that are struggling more than others, but the MAJORITY of the country is doing fine.   It's time they (and those of us in the industry) focus on the positives.   Professionals here in our market that want to work are getting business.   Houses are moving.   I am glad to be a part of AR and appreciate those of you who take the time to remind us that we need to be proactive.

Continued success to you!

The media has unbelievable power to make or break a market. If tommorrow all the big news companies starting saying it was a great time to start buying, people would follow along. But they like negative news and that negative news is going to keep the market in this downward spiral.

I'm not one to bash the media over housing coverage as I think they helped fuel the boom and will also assist in the turn around.  However, I think your blog makes an excellent point that nobody watches Katie Couric unless they have to!!!

Stephanie, like many other newscasters, Katie Couric is painting a broad brush on the housing picture of the whole country as one number. Real estate is local and local within local. Good luck with your letter. Maybe someone will pay attention.

When you think it through the seller who is sitting in front of you has the greatest amount to loose from the media's attempt to tell us about the market.  We must use our professionalism to help our clients.  Great post Stephanie.
