~ Check Your Insurance Coverage ~
One of today's features written by Doug Rogers "No Dear Buyer, You May Not Ride in My Jeep" has inspired me to write this post. Reading through all the comments and the pro's and con's of having buyers ride in your car vs. follow behind reminded me of something that just happened to me.
Recently I needed to renew my auto insurance. I contacted my current carrier and was surprised to hear that they were not going to be able to continue my coverage due to some new underwriting guidelines. (No, I did not receive multiple tickets nor have many accidents since my last renewal.) I was told that their underwriting policy had changed. Since I occasionally put buyers in my car, they could not insure me! What?!
But what was even more interesting, was that I encountered several more insurance carriers that had adopted that same guideline. Seriously! I had called four other "big" insurance companies only to be told the same thing. One of the companies that I had called was one that had been recommended to me by another agent. When I was told they couldn't cover me, the other agent called them and ended up having to switch to another insurance company because of this.
Check your insurance coverage before you find yourself in a car accident with buyers in you car and find out too late that you won't be covered!
