An Attitude Of Gratitude: Meet Mr. Keith Laytham

Real Estate Agent with Tutas Towne Realty, Inc. SL3226489

Poinciana Residents For Smart ChangeMr. Laytham formed a group called Poinciana Residents For Smart Change in 2008. He formed the group initially to help oppose a planned development that would have overwhelmed Poinciana’s already struggling road system. However, since 2008 Mr. Laytham has spent his time and energy on being an advocate for Poinciana’s youth and pushing for changes in Poinciana that would make it a better place to live. He and his group have pushed local, county, and state governments toward providing adequate youth programs and facilities in Poinciana. They have also advocated for major road improvements, to include the proposed Poinciana Parkway which would connect Poinciana residents to Interstate 4.

Pocket Park in Village 7, is another of Mr. Laytham’s success’s in moving the group’s agenda forward. A few months ago Polk County also approved a 20 acre youth sports facility that will be located in Village 7 as well. Village 7 is missing the infrastructure and commercial services that the rest of Poinciana has access to and Mr. Laytham is helping to change that.

I’d like to personally and publicly thank Mr. Keith Laytham  for the hard work he and his group are doing to make Poinciana a better place to live and work. I think we all owe him a round of applause.

Kudos for a positive post highlighting an individual who has effected positivive change in your community.

I'd like to have such an advocate in our neighborhood, right now.

Unfortunately, when the economy slides is when we see heavy handed developers pushing their ugly, cheap commercial sites. And, our governing board is in bed with these same developers, to the point where they've rescinded and/or relaxed most of the guidelines and regulations previously set-up to protect our community.

We've got 2 major, horrendous projects rearing their ugly heads and doesn't seem like anything we can do.

These projects will strain our infrastructure and ultimately delude our sense of well being and degrade our lifestyle. Property values will (continue to) fall, and the dangerous downward spiral will devaluate our community.

I've seen this happen before. Too bad people's memories are so short. Fear plays such a big part in our decision making and errodes our sense of right and wrong. Especially during election years where politicians and their followers easily scapegoat those they think are different, and you see this  fearmongering elevating rhetoric to a point of absolute falsehood and absurdity.

But, I digress...I am pleased to see you recognize positive change and the people in your community initiating and propogating it to the betterment of all. Congratulations for taking the non-selfish tact of announcing to the AR community and beyond, the inspiring and motivational spark Mr Laytham gives!

Fulton, What you are describing is essentially the same thing Mr. Laytham successfully fought against. I'm a firm believer in the ideal that it only takes one motivated man to make a difference. And he has...

Brenda, as always, thanks for the comment. :)  I agree, anyone who does things to the betterment of our youth is ok in my book.

Nice job highlighting a person who not only lives in Poinciana, but enhances the community that he calls home. Mr. Laytham sounds like my kind of guy.

And I'm with Brenda, anyone who works on behalf of children (and the elderly) gets a big round of applause and a thank you from me.

  Have a great day,  Debb

Nathan, wouldn't it be great if every community had a couple of "Mr. Latham's" in their midst championing great local causes.
